Rising Fox News star Lawrence Jones has been tapped as the next rotating replacement for fired anchor Tucker Carlson's 8pm weekday spot.
Jones, 30, will take over as the next temporary host of the rebranded 'Fox News Tonight' starting on Monday, following Brian Kilmeade's weeklong stint as Carlson's replacement, a network spokesperson told DailyMail.com on Saturday.
Since January 2022, Jones has hosted a weekend primetime show on the network, 'Lawrence Jones Cross Country', making him the youngest black solo host of a cable news show in history.
The self-avowed libertarian also spends much of the week as a roving reporter for Fox & Friends, traveling the country to cover major news events.
Meanwhile, conservative news outlet Newsmax is making a major push to woo Carlson, even floating the possibility that he could run programming for the entire channel, and not just his own show, sources told TMZ.
Carlson has been cryptic about his plans in remarks this week to DailyMail.com, and a video statement posted on Twitter, and is currently barred from formal job negotiations due to his Fox News contract.
While Newsmax hasn't made any formal job offer, execs at the channel have been peppering Carlson's confidants with informal proposals that he could take a leading role in rebranding the channel and overseeing programming, according to TMZ.
The Newsmax website has also spent much of the week publishing stories bashing Fox News and fawning over Carlson, with a banner headline on Saturday morning, citing a poll, reading: 'Tucker Carlson More Popular Than Fox News.'
Carlson, 53, reportedly made up to $20 million annually at Fox News as the channel's highest-rated primetime host.
In the wake of Carlson's April 24 firing, ratings shot up for Newsmax's Eric Bolling, who hosts a show in the same 8pm Eastern slot as

Best I can do is, “Nice dog”.
Can a network set up Tucker with total control of his show, without also taking on the liability that he might pose?
I’m not crawling over there to watch that slop.
When will Tucker be free from his Fox Contract. so he can negotiate with other offers?
Not much of a Libertarian if he’s willing to be handled.
When will Tucker be free from his Fox Contract, so he can negotiate for other offers?
Yep.
I’m sure Fox’s ratings - especially in Tucker’s former time slot - will soar through the roof with the new, improved replacement.
I’m sure my family members who loved Tucker will re-set their timers again.
Well Larry Jones is a nice enuff guy.
But, he ain’t Tucker.
The Murdoch Morons jumped the shark and have gone woke.
Go woke, go broke.
I am so... confused. Watch the news and you’d think blacks and whites hate each other. Watch anything else and you’d think everything is so inclusive/wonderful.
Blacks are acting white and whites are now big dumb whitey. All the interracial couples signaling harmony.
Time to stream everything.
My wife and I like Lawrence Jones but,”meh”.
Good, guy, but I hardly even watched Tucker. I get my news here.
Jones is gone in under 6 mos.
You can use your own quarter to call someone who cares.

I don’t care if they select Donald Trump. I won’t be watching shows on Fox.
A 30 year old in these times has zero credibility to be anything more than a roving reporter. I think Fox, and the likes of Limbaugh’s amateur replacements, et al, are trying to appeal to under 35’s, and to also pretend the over 50 set doesn’t even exist.
Whatever. I’m glad a lot of you have finally stopped tuning Fox in, I hope you stay tuned out, and Fox should die the squeamy death it has deserved for a long time.
Just watch how libertarian his positions are now that the Murdoch spotlight is on him.
From what I’ve seen he’s technically not fired, he still has a contract with Fox News paying him 20 million a year, a settlement has to be reached before he can do anything, he’s hired a big time shark to be his attorney to negotiate a settlement, until that is complete, Tucker can’t negotiate with anyone or be heard offering his opinions, the real question is will Fox offer a full payout of the contract in exchange for a total silence on Tucker’s part until after the 2024 election. We’ll see what he’s willing to settle for.
Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather "offered their opinions" on the CBS Nightly News for years without seeming to do so.
