Army aviators, ready to leave the military, are told they owe 3 more years instead

Hundreds of Army aviation officers who were set to leave the military are being held to another three years of service after they say the branch quietly reinterpreted part of their contract amid retention and recruitment issues.

The shift has sparked an uproar among the more than 600 affected active-duty commissioned officers, including some who say their plans to start families, launch businesses and begin their civilian lives have been suddenly derailed.

“We are now completely in limbo,” said a captain who had scheduled his wedding around thinking he would be leaving the military this spring.

That captain and three other active-duty aviation officers who spoke to NBC News spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retaliation.

As part of a program known as BRADSO, cadets commissioning from the U.S. Military Academy or Army Cadet Command from 2008 and 2020 were able to request a branch of their choice, including aviation, by agreeing to serve an additional three years on active duty.

For years, the Army allowed some aviation officers to serve those three years concurrently, and not consecutively, along with their roughly contracted seven or eight years of service.

In a phone call with reporters Thursday, Army officials admitted "errors" in the system, which they noticed a few months ago, led to the discrepancy.

"We are fixing those errors, and we are in communication with the unit leadership and impacted officers," said Lt. Gen. Douglas Stitt, deputy chief of staff of G-1, which is in charge of policy and personnel.

I agree 100%. This is a deliberate strategy.
It used to be claimed that the US military would never fire on Americans. To the extent that it was true at the time, it is a lot less so now & will become completely false if this continues.

“”I am making a political statement. So step off.””

You should have made the thread about the article you used, the Army starting to enforce the enlistment rules for aviation officers.

USO Road shows with Dylan Mulvaney?

Considering there are already drag shows taking place on bases, not a far fetched statement.

Remember the Vietnam War? Most of us here on Free Republic do. It turns out that that war was escalated over an imaginary event.

I resent my government spilling the blood of our youth in their prime over financial and political goals quite unrelated to the safety and security of our Nation.

Are you referring to pre-coup America or post-coup?

I can imagine that the administration that had soldiers sleeping on concrete floors in parking garages during the coup might view soldiers as being cannon fodder

That is a lot of hate for a guy who calls himself a terrorist.

So now any/everybody on FR or online has to actually "be" what they chose for a Screen name ?

If so then You're going to be disappointed with Me because I'm a older white male, not an ugly, dead white girl that raised a bunch of thugs for offspring. So sorry to pop that mental bubble.

Have a wunderbar day🧐<--- bad impression of Col. Klink and his monocle.

Well, I never thought of “cannon fodder’ meaning sleeping on the floor in Washington D.C., something I have done there, as well as on the ground there.

Evidently, a lot of you are using “cannon fodder” in a completely different way than it is supposed to be used.

I don’t think we lost any of those Guardsmen in D.C. much less in senseless mass attacks into certain death.

It was escalated by JFK but what does Vietnam have to do with anything?

Fine and dandy until you find out that you killed a number of people who only disagree with someone else.

“We don’t have cannon fodder”

Tell that to all the Afghanistan veterans who saw Biden just give al Qaeda tens of billions in weapons while abandoning Americans in Afghanistan. Their deaths and injuries were for nothing, sad to say.

It was started by JFK, escalated by Lyndon Johnson.

what does Vietnam have to do with anything?

It was a time when many eager and wonderful young men discovered that their own government would lie to them and place them in harm's way to serve election-time goals or to increase the profits of companies that supplied arms. When we look back, we surely do feel used.

Please don’t get me wrong. Our guys/gals in the military are heroes to us. You are in the finest military in the world; and, one that makes a big deal out of accomplishing goals with minimum loss of life or collateral damage. We just want to warn you that your government rarely deploys you for reasons that make our Nation secure. Deployments are usually for politics or profit. Nations have been crushed and innocents killed over perceived advantages to corporate entities in the US.
