Army aviators, ready to leave the military, are told they owe 3 more years instead

Hundreds of Army aviation officers who were set to leave the military are being held to another three years of service after they say the branch quietly reinterpreted part of their contract amid retention and recruitment issues.

The shift has sparked an uproar among the more than 600 affected active-duty commissioned officers, including some who say their plans to start families, launch businesses and begin their civilian lives have been suddenly derailed.

“We are now completely in limbo,” said a captain who had scheduled his wedding around thinking he would be leaving the military this spring.

That captain and three other active-duty aviation officers who spoke to NBC News spoke on the condition of anonymity out of fear of retaliation.

As part of a program known as BRADSO, cadets commissioning from the U.S. Military Academy or Army Cadet Command from 2008 and 2020 were able to request a branch of their choice, including aviation, by agreeing to serve an additional three years on active duty.

For years, the Army allowed some aviation officers to serve those three years concurrently, and not consecutively, along with their roughly contracted seven or eight years of service.

In a phone call with reporters Thursday, Army officials admitted "errors" in the system, which they noticed a few months ago, led to the discrepancy.

"We are fixing those errors, and we are in communication with the unit leadership and impacted officers," said Lt. Gen. Douglas Stitt, deputy chief of staff of G-1, which is in charge of policy and personnel.

You're in the Army now,
You're not behind a plow;
You'll never get rich,
You son of a bitch,
You're in the Army now.

My wife was 3 or 4 years old when her dad taught her those lyrics. He served in the army from 1938 until 1966 and was a combat veteran who was seriously wounded in both WWII and Korea.

My wife was very good at reciting poetry when she was a child that had been taught by her mother. Unfortunately, when asked to recite a poem impromptu in front of the church lady's group when she was 4... she began one that her dad taught her that she thought was very catchy. Her mom put her hand over her mouth as she drug her out of the living room, but she had already made it through the following verse.

Carnation Milk the best in the land
All done up in a nice tin can
No tits to pull
No shit to pitch
Just poke a hole in the son of a bitch.

All through the lips of the sweetest little 3-foot-tall girl that you can imagine.

“We don’t have cannon fodder so quit mocking our active duty and veterans.”

What about Benghazi? How about the airport in Kabul?

We have the absolute worst people running this country. People hate us so much now that it has opened a door for China and boy are they taking advantage of it. That fool Blinken and Pedo Joe are destroying us.

China has sent rescuers to Sudan to get all their people out and is also rescuing those from other countries. They are making much of the fact the US leaves their people behind now.

Watch the first 10 minutes.

... the goal for them is to create a 'military' that has the same 'enemies' as Homeland, the DOJ, FBI and 'intelligence': traditional Americans.

...

This is classic totalitarian crap ... they're making choices to make things worse on purpose. If we've figured it out - they've also figured it out.

Exactly.

Biden's puppeteers need politically reliable gun ship drivers that will unquestioningly attack small town MAGA Americans.

I'd call that cannon fodder. They only follow orders. In an earlier time, they were known as Sturmtruppen.

I heard a joke somewhat along those lines.

Johnny was reciting math at home.

2 + 2, the sumbitch is 4.
3 + 3, the sumbitch is 6.
4 + 4, the sumbitch is 8.
Well, mom and dad were concerned about this so they called upon the teacher and told her what Johnny was saying. The teacher thought about and burst out laughing. She told them that she was teaching Johnny that 2 + 2, the sum of which is 4.

Read what I wrote “”The military is still a chance of a lifetime for many jobs, and activities that are never to be seen or experienced otherwise.””

Where else can you train to be a Navy SEAL or Green Beret, or fighter pilot, or drive a tank, or live your life on a nuclear submarine?

There are some things that you can only do in the military.

I did 10 years. I was on the list for major, but the army was pushing me towards my functional area, and at the time I was facing the potential of Al Gore as Commander in Chief.

I had always considered myself conservative, but generally apolitical. It was impossible to remain that way during the clinton years. I discovered Free Republic on an Army computer :)

If you’re flying a fighter jet in the service of Hydra, does the distinction of being a fighter pilot somehow negate your role in Hydra’s next military action of dubious moral value on a weaker country?

My conservatism grew during the Carter Administration. My soldiers and their families were hurt during the budget showdowns in 77 & 78. Carter's pell mell rush to put women in Hawk and Nike Hercules batteries was a big mistake IMO, if only because the facilities were not upgraded in advance.

Reagan was my governor when I was growing up in California. Although I disagreed with him on a few things, I trusted him.

In the weeks leading up to the election in 80, my German neighbors pleaded with me to vote for Carter, because they were sure that Reagan would start WWIII. I dined at the local gasthaus 2-3 times a week, and would engage them in political debates.

My stance was simple: the world is a safer place when America is strong, and Reagan was the right man for the job. By that time, my German was near fluent, so I spoke entirely in German to my neighbors.

The day after Reagan entered the White House, I was invited to sit at the stammtische, a table reserved for family and close friends. It's an honor I cherish to this day.
