‘You Don’t Get To Say That Sh*t’: Eric Swalwell Melts Down After GOP Rep Mentions Alleged Relationship With ‘Yum Yum’

Democratic California Rep. Eric Swalwell did not react kindly to Republican Texas Rep. Troy Nehls’ comments at a Wednesday Congressional hearing about Swalwell’s alleged relationship with a Chinese spy.

Swalwell and Nehls participated in a hearing about the exploitation of unaccompanied migrant children held by the House Judiciary Subcommittee on Immigration Integrity, Security, and Enforcement.

“Ms. Rodriguez, I apologize that you had to — you’re here for a hearing on the border, they don’t want to talk about a border. Mr. Swalwell is down there, obviously everybody knows he’s made some comments, he’s got a checkered past,” Nehls said as Swalwell interrupted him.

“I’m sorry — I have a checkered past?” Swalwell blurted out.

“It’s my time,” Nehls replied. “Alleged affairs, relationships with Yum Yum,” he continued.

Yum-Yum was a Japanese girl in Gilbert & Sullivan’s “The Mikado”, a comic opera. That is actually a VERY clever allusion that will be caught by well-educated, culturally-minded folks. Something Mark Steyn would have thrown out.

True, the old system only worked with people who voluntarily agreed to a “gentlemanly” code of conduct. So to refuse a duel had no consequence other than a stain on your honor, but most men would rather risk death than carry that.

But... you could modify the system to work even with dishonorable people. You would just need to add some additional consequence to refusing, cheating, reneging, etc, that would actually matter to dishonorable people. Not sure what would work, but I bet we could come up with something.

I am not a fan of them, but I give my vote to the lemon jelly donut, which commit the unpardonable sin of looking like Apple Jelly donuts until it is too late. I order the donuts for my church, and lemon jelly is forbidden. I also forbid confectionery sugar out of pity for the mothers with young children who get it everywhere. I tolerate maple donuts because they do not put on a disguise, and some people do like them.
