Vern Buchanan becomes eighth Florida lawmaker to back Trump over DeSantis

Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL) became the eighth Republican lawmaker from Florida to endorse former President Donald Trump for president over Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL), who has not announced a 2024 presidential campaign.

"If we want to get our economy back on track, Donald Trump is just the guy to get it done," Buchanan told Florida Politics on Wednesday. “From lowering taxes to protecting our borders to promoting America-first trade deals, President Trump has done it before and will do it again.”

TRUMP'S GROWING LIST OF ENDORSEMENTS SHOWS REPUBLICANS ARE RETURNING TO THE FOLD

Several Florida congressional Republicans have chosen Trump over the Sunshine State's governor as the shadow war between Trump and DeSantis heats up.

Rep. Greg Steube (R-FL) endorsed Trump on Monday, one day before DeSantis attended a meet-and-greet event in Washington, D.C. The other members of the Florida delegation backing Trump include Reps. Byron Donalds, Matt Gaetz, Anna Paulina Luna, Brian Mast, Cory Mills, and John Rutherford.

But at least one person in the Florida delegation is supporting DeSantis.

Rep. Laurel Lee (R-FL) announced on Tuesday that she was endorsing DeSantis, making her the first of the Florida delegation to support the Florida governor.

"As Ron DeSantis’s Secretary of State, I had the honor of witnessing firsthand his unparalleled leadership under pressure, his character, and his commitment to core conservative principles," Lee said in a statement. "His leadership and his vision made Florida a shining beacon of freedom. Ron DeSantis fights for what matters, and he wins when it matters most."

Trump has racked up endorsements from at least 45 members of Congress, while DeSantis only has three congressional endorsements. And the former president is still dominating polls among likely GOP primary voters. Yet, Trump has seen his lead over 2024 rivals, including DeSantis, shrink.

“lowering taxes” is not practical if half the country is on the dole.

DeSantis will be great for 28, but not before 24.

Trump went along 100% with the massive spending that messed up our economy and urged even more (costing Republicans the Senate).

Millions of families can no longer afford a reasonable size home in the area where they live because of Trump/Biden era spending.

Let’s wait for the debates.

Of course Trump polls better, he as a former President is known nationwide.

A Florida governor is as well known in California as Governor Noxious is known in Florida.

Trump lost to Biden (and still would have if the election was fraud free).

Need I say more?

No he wouldn’t have. Take away the fraud and Trump should have had 410 electoral votes.

Good grief, who cares, I’m sooooooooo sick of this nonsense, who endorsed who, trump going after desantis, bla bla bla, holy smokes. Does anyone really think trump is going to be elected???? Dems have mastered stealing elections, it doesn’t matter how many people endorse trump, SMH, who ever the dem nominee is, that’s who will be president next time around.

Why not? Lowering taxes encourages business investment to get people off the dole.

Why would someone endorse someone who isn’t running for president? This is so un-newsworthy, it’s laughable.

The Orange Matador will eventually ‘bleed out’ the little bull from Florida.

JFTR, Mabinty Quarshie spent six years at USA Today before joining the Washington Examiner. She must be gnashing her teeth at all these endorsements . . .

Is anybody working on ballot harvesting? I hate that it’s legal in some states, but for now it’s the rules we have to play by.

The dishonesty of Freepers that support DeSantis never ceases to amaze me.
