House Republicans poised to pass transgender sports ban for schools

WASHINGTON — The House is expected to pass legislation Thursday that would ban transgender women and girls from competing in female school athletics — the latest GOP salvo in the intensifying culture wars over transgender rights in America.

The bill, authored by Rep. Greg Steube, R-Fla., would amend Title IX to bar schools that receive federal funding from allowing people “whose sex is male” to participate in sports designated for women or girls.

The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act defines sex as “based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.”

The GOP bill will go nowhere in the Democratic-controlled Senate, and the White House has said President Joe Biden would veto the measure, which “targets people for who they are and therefore is discriminatory,” if it were to make it to his desk.

Democrats have accused Republicans of going after transgender people to build their political brand and raise cash from conservative donors. And they argue Steube’s bill would target and make life harder for people who already struggle with bullying, depression and thoughts of suicide.

The bill should be named after “Leah” Thomas. In a sane world, it should pass with veto-proof unanimous majorities. In normal times, the idea that it’d even be necessary would be utterly preposterous.

The problem, and possibly why conservatives have lost practically every confrontation, is terminology. It’s “women’s health” instead of abortion. It’s “transgenderism” instead of crossdressing. Lose control of the terminology and you lose the conflict.

Imagine what would happen to a congressman who takes the floor and starts talking about crossdressing. He’d be instantly shouted down. That fact that he can’t even use the term means he loses.

Senate will let it die on the table, and even IF they passed it, which isn’t likely, Biden won’t sign it, he’ll veto it, so nothing changes.......................

The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, if it ever gets to the floor for a vote will be a pretty good indicator of our particular CongressCritters real intent. However, I doubt the majority party in the House will allow it to come to a vote and if it actually does, I do not think it will pass.

This does not require an act of Congress. We are talking about people playing games here. The proper solution is for school districts to vote and cancel the games. First off this will allow more focus on the activities in the classroom. Second it will shield taxpayers in the district from any liability from injuries that take place, or those who want men competing in the game girls play.

What nonsense. We need sane writers and editors.

What disparaging term is the media going to call this?

Why doesn’t it forbid females from participating in male sports? Why doesn’t it require all of government to use and only recognize a person’s sex at birth for the life of the person? Why doesn’t it outlaw “gender-confirming” therapy, hormone treatments and genital mutilation? Why doesn’t it require the government to officially use the term “faggot” for homosexual men, “dyke” or “lesbo” for homosexual females, “frickin’ freak” for transgenders (birth sex deniers), and collectively all of the above “abominations to Lord, our God”?

They should have named it The Female Reality Act and had hearings on why women and girls need to be protected.
It’s appaling what a few decades of propaganda has done.

Why if a significant number of boys/men tried out for girls/women’s sports claiming a right to do so? Would this cause girls/women to rise up and stop this foolishness?

This is good because it forces Biden to veto it, and essentially puts him on the side of those who hate women and women’s sports. Another clear line is being drawn as we head toward 2024.

Biden will never get the chance to veto the bill.

It has no chance of being passed by the senate. It may never even make it to the senate floor for debate.

It would be nice but it won’t though. Schumer will kill it without a vote, so Braindead won’t get a chance to veto it.

“The main athletic association for Georgia high schools voted Wednesday to ban transgender boys and girls from playing on the school sports teams matching their gender identity, saying instead that students must play on teams that match the sex listed on their birth certificates at birth.”

This happened because of the anti-intellectualism of the conservative movement, which has intensified over the past 2 decades, and has led to a rapid thinning in the ranks of influential conservative intellectuals (like Kirk, Buckley, Safire, etc. of the old generation) who were widely respected, in favor of loud polemicists like MTG and Sarah Palin who have zero influence and zero standing among intellectuals.

You were wrong about that. It just passed the House by a vote of 219-213. ZERO Dems voted for it.
