U.S. To Russia: Please Ignore Our Sensitive Nuclear Energy Tech In Ukraine
The Daily Wire ^ | April 18, 2023 | Tim Meads

Do you think the Russians care one iota about respecting U.S. law?

Well, you probably don’t, but President Joe Biden’s Energy Department is under the impression that President Vladimir Putin and his ilk will honor U.S. law as it relates to sensitive nuclear energy technology in Ukraine.

Russia’s state-owned nuclear energy firm Rosatom took over Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant in Enerhodar, Ukraine, after it invaded. On Tuesday, CNN reported that the Department of Energy (DOE) sent Russia an official letter on March 17, 2023, explaining that the power plant “contains US-origin nuclear technical data that is export-controlled by the [U.S.] Government” and could undermine U.S. national security if it fell into the wrong hands.

Ukrainian crew members are currently staffing the power plant while Russia manages it. It was taken off the Ukrainian grid for security purposes.

Per the media outlet, the DOE also let Russia know, “It is unlawful under United States law for non-authorized persons, including, but not limited to, Russian citizens and Russian entities, such as Rosatom and its subsidiaries, to knowingly and willfully access, possess, control, export, store, seize, review, re-export, ship, transfer, copy, manipulate such technology or technical data, or direct, or authorize others to do the same, without such Russian entities becoming authorized recipients by the Secretary of the US Department of Energy.”

At first glance, that letter reads more like the old FBI warning about copying and redistributing VHS tapes than any stern warning of international importance.

Of course, to state the obvious, it was also in violation of Ukrainian law for Russia to invade in the first place, but that didn’t stop the Kremlin from barging right into the country and wreaking havoc. In fact, for seven years straight now, Biden and his Democratic Party have warned that Russia does not respect the American way of life nor its laws and democracy.

It should be noted that as of October 2022, there was “no record of any current authorization to transfer this technology and technical data to any Russian national or entity,” according to the DOE.

So, what exactly is this letter going to accomplish? Why would Russia — a country that the U.S. will help Ukraine fight until the end of World War III — care about U.S. law?

Isn’t it likely that Russia, alongside its new buddy China, is working around the clock to extract this data in ways unsusceptible to U.S. intelligence?

The real kicker in all of this is highlighted by CNN’s last line. The U.S. has been assisting Ukraine’s nuclear energy plant for quite some time out in the open.

In June 2021, the DOE’s website said that the U.S. “helped implement new maintenance procedures and operations at the reactor that should ultimately strengthen energy security” in Ukraine.

So, the Biden administration is intent on helping Ukraine achieve energy security, yet is content to weaken American energy independence by dismantling our fossil fuels industry and making us rely on foreign nations. In other words: Ukraine first. America last.

Biden to Russia: Some cyberattacks are off limits. Especially Hillary’s emails.

Sounds more like we just invited Russia to go get the Trojan Horse we left for them.

If the President were named “Reagan” that would seem very likely.

“The U.S. has been assisting Ukraine’s nuclear energy plant for quite some time out in the open.”

So, in all probability, this has compromised the security of US nuclear plants.

Reagan was a genius and I envy those people who were alive to see him as President.

Who was the idiot gave US nukular technology to the corrupt Ukrainian government without putting a remote-control self-destruct button on it?

Please don’t envy me ...

As for Reagan:

The Soviets were stealing our computer technology, ‘cause theirs sucked. Reagan officials figured out what was going on, and arranged for the Commies to steal (for use in their gas pipeline system) a computer with special sauce built in ...

The resulting explosion was epic.

My husband knew someone from the Reagan admin and he detailed how the “Star Wars” program was a big deception intended to get the Russians to bankrupt themselves trying to counter an anti-missile technology the US had no intention of actually building.

Bits and pieces of things were leaked to the Russians to convince them the project was real and the Russians went nuts trying to counter it.

The ploy exploited Russia’s paranoia and it paid off.

Do not compare this to the captured Russian T-90 tank spotted on the road trip from a US port to the Aberdeen Proving Grounds. They are entirely different because we said so.

I remember it well, followed some of the technology.

I wonder where all that money went.

And what exactly would a “Trojan Horse” in a Ukrainian nuclear power plant look like, exactly?

I beg to differ ... Strategic Defense was very real, although severely hampered by pro-Soviet democRATs in Congress. I agree with the bit about bankrupting the USSR, though.

Many of the technologies that were explored through SDI proved to be unfeasible because of physics. The underlying phenomena were not known until the experiment was performed. Basic “hit-to-kill” works, however. Today, we don’t have a robust ballistic missile defense system ONLY because anti-American leftists in Congress, along with their fellow travelers in Big Media and Big Education, don’t want us to have one.

You know, people who promote Missile Defense are “warmongers” ...

Imagine the number of important military and industrial secrets has revealed by total inepness in the past 2 years.

Bribed by China. He has acted in favor of China every instance when we could have supported the USA and did not.

The Fall of Afghanistan.

The spy balloon fly over DC.

The failure to secure our technology and the border. Don’t forget the huge number of Fentanyl poisoning.

The war in Ukraine.

And the destruction of the undersea pipeline.

Has any President in the history of our nation so compromised the USA? Answer: NO, not ever.

I wonder where all that money went.

Some of it went into exploring technologies that didn't pan out. Basic science is like that ... something they don't teach you in "science class".

Some of it went into the Aegis air/space defense system currently deployed with the US Navy. Some of it went into the Mid-course defense system currently deployed at Fort Greely, Alaska. Some of it went into the Patriot missile system, currently fielded by the US Army.

The various tentacles of the democRAT Party don't want you to know that.

“Department of Energy (DOE) sent Russia an official letter on March 17, 2023”. Well, that settles that, if it was ‘official’.

I can guess. So can you.

If I knew (which I don’t) I for sure as HELL would NOT post it online.

And for the record, I don’t think Gropin’ Joe, or his lackeys, or his handlers, have the guts to do it. I don’t think they have the guts to blow up an enemy’s pipeline, either.

Thanks. I knew that it wasn't all wasted and some of the concepts panned out, like any other scientific research / product development.

I was reacting somewhat TIC to the idea that it was all "a big deception." The arms race was already in place, and Reagan actually did up the ante to the point the Russians couldn't perform. It was a real program that produced real things. Brilliant, IMHO.

I gave up trying to understand SDI because how could I, so I decided to just watch the Russians and learn from their reaction, they were frantic, absolutely nuts over SDI, frothing at the mouth insane over it.
