My husband knew someone from the Reagan admin and he detailed how the “Star Wars” program was a big deception intended to get the Russians to bankrupt themselves trying to counter an anti-missile technology the US had no intention of actually building.
Bits and pieces of things were leaked to the Russians to convince them the project was real and the Russians went nuts trying to counter it.
The ploy exploited Russia’s paranoia and it paid off.
I remember it well, followed some of the technology.
I wonder where all that money went.
I beg to differ ... Strategic Defense was very real, although severely hampered by pro-Soviet democRATs in Congress. I agree with the bit about bankrupting the USSR, though.
Many of the technologies that were explored through SDI proved to be unfeasible because of physics. The underlying phenomena were not known until the experiment was performed. Basic “hit-to-kill” works, however. Today, we don’t have a robust ballistic missile defense system ONLY because anti-American leftists in Congress, along with their fellow travelers in Big Media and Big Education, don’t want us to have one.
You know, people who promote Missile Defense are “warmongers” ...
I gave up trying to understand SDI because how could I, so I decided to just watch the Russians and learn from their reaction, they were frantic, absolutely nuts over SDI, frothing at the mouth insane over it.
