Kansas City, Mo. Mayor Quinton Lucas (D) said early Wednesday that the recent shooting of 16-year-old Ralph Yarl “has everything to do with race.”
Police say Yarl was shot twice by Andrew Lester, an 84-year-old white homeowner, after the Black teenager accidentally went to the wrong address to pick up his younger brothers.
“This defendant, in the probable cause statement, is indicated to have said that he was afraid of Ralph because he is a tall, Black man,” Lucas told “CNN This Morning” on Wednesday.
“He thought he was in some way menacing or scary. I don’t think that was true,” Lucas said.

The media absolutely should be accountable for their shaping of the national narrative, stoking division.
Just asking (for a friend)...
Have Black youth done ANYTHING to warrant anyone being afraid of them?
I’m 6’1 and 220. I always back away from the door of a house where I don’t know the people after ringing the bell. It’s less intimidating to the person answering the door. If the man spends any time on You Tube I’m sure he’s seen plenty of young people forcing their way into peoples homes and at 10pm it’s not going to be some kid selling Girl Scout cookies.
It does have everything to do with race because if a white kid had been shot we would have never heard about it.
but i always come back to the same question
why did he open the door?
if someone is concerned for their safety
do not open the door
Depends on which version of the story you believe. Kid came to wrong house and rang the doorbell and got shot for no reason or kid came too house an attempted to yank the outer door open while old man stood in the door.
The prosecution will argue that bringing a firearm to the door indicates premeditation.
That would definitely be a problem for the old guy. Sadly we may never hear the whole story unless we were in the courtroom when the case is tried, even them it would depend largely on the judge he draws.
For the victim it is always better to kill the perpetrator. A guy in a wheelchair is 100 times more pathetic than a death notice.
You think an 85 yr old spends time on utube?
My 82 yo mother does. Maybe he just watches the news and has seen enough to be frightened of youths coming to his door at 10pm
