Donald Trump Jr. Warns DeSantis Could Face the Same Weaponization as His Father

Donald Trump Jr. warned during an appearance on the Full Send podcast that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) could face the same weaponization as former President Donald Trump down the road, contending that it is easy to disassociate yourself from that reality when big donors are using you to take down Trump.

Donald Trump Jr. first noted DeSantis’s “flip flop” on Ukraine as a demonstration of the governor’s connections to big donors and the influence they may wield.

“He tried sort of taking the Trump approach, like, maybe war bad and then, like, the donors — that’s a difference,” he said, explaining that DeSantis “sort of took a, like a weak Trump stance on it, you know, and then he was like, well, we must stop it. Putin is an evil dictator, you know, it’s like, holy shit. Your donors got to you.”

That is, perhaps, one of the starkest differences between the two, Don Jr. said, noting that his father is not beholden to donors or the establishment class. Don Jr. continued to build the case that DeSantis is steered by the establishment class and RINO donors, even pointing to his seeming lack of concern when Trump first announced his suspected indictment. Initially, DeSantis dismissed it as a non-issue, shocking and angering many conservatives.

DeSantis — who has not formally announced a presidential bid — initially said his administration was “not going to be involved” with a “manufactured circus by some Soros DA.”

“I’ve got so many things pending in front of the legislature. I’ve got to spend my time on issues that actually matter to people. I can’t spend my time worrying about things of that nature, so we’re not going to be involved in any way,” he said.

All the deep state RINO’s seem to like him, though.

DeSantis has done nothing but gone downhill with this. He should have waited 4 years and thrown total support behind Trump, and he would have been the top contender in 2028

That was it, for me.

I like Governor DeSantis, but he should spend the next few years seasoning himself.

The GOP needs to understand that every single candidate will be attacked in the exact same way... as long as they are not stopped.

So either fight back, or get used to it.

The Full Send podcasters are dirtbags who peddle gambling and liquor to their youngish audience. Not the kind of people conservatism should want to be associated with.

The Clinton’s certainly “liked” Trump’s $100k gift in 2009. Jeb Bush and Crispy Creme Christie were certainly supportive of Trump recently. So I don’t think you want to go there with a lifetime Democrat like Trump.

You’ve never heard of them because their audience is teenage boys and young male adults. I can see why Don Jr. would fit in with that demo, though.

I suspect that Trump fears debates with (gifted speaker with no need to call childish names and decorated Veteran) RDS more than any Dem.

Trump's strat appears to be that of poisoning the metaphorical water hole to avoid legitimate competition for the nom.

I'll vote for whomever wins the nom, and right now, I favor DeSantis.

I am sure he will… and he has. But Trump makes himself an easy target. DeSantis does not. I can’t see DeSantis calling the Georgia Governor and telling him to come up with another 11,000 votes.

He’s stating that for purpose.

A lot of folks think Trump draws all the criticism because
it’s him. They want to support someone who won’t have that
to deal with.

They’re politically tone deaf. Someone has to say this.

Sure, we know it. That are a lot of petunias out there
that don’t get enough sunlight.

* * *

I beg to differ. Trump is a proven debater -- even with a hostile press and a dozen presidential opponents in the 2016 primary.

On the "decorated Veteran" front, I'm not sure what DeSantis' Bronze Star medal really means. The Tampa Bay Times says was in Iraq for 6 months as a Navy JAG corps officer -- a lawyer.

He did not have a combat role, but worked on the staff of the commander in Fallujah apparently in the area of managing the interrogation of prisoners of war.

I'm not knocking DeSantis for being a veteran. But I don't like him posing as a "Top Gun" jet pilot in his campaign video because looks deliberately misleading.

He needs to tell the public exactly why he was awarded his medal in the Iraq combat theater of operations.
