Trump discourages DeSantis, says candidacy would ‘only hurt’ Republican Party
The Hill ^ | 04/10/2023 | BRETT SAMUELS

Former President Donald Trump on Monday sought to discourage Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) from officially getting into the 2024 presidential race, claiming it would ultimately divide the GOP and hurt DeSantis’ career.

“Ron DeSantis is a young man who is not doing well against me in the polls, to put it mildly,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “I believe that if he decides to run for President, which will only hurt and somewhat divide the Republican Party, he will lose the cherished and massive MAGA vote, and never be able to successfully run for office again.”

“If he remains Governor, which is what Florida voters assumed, it would be a whole different story….JUST SAYIN’ – But who knows?” Trump added.

I think he’s right. DeSantis would do better to wait for 2028. That being said, I think Trump will lose because there are a lot of people who will vote against their own interests simply because they hate Trump.

He’ll have a stronger chance if he focuses on his policies, achievements as president and his vision for the future as opposed to continuing to complain about how he was cheated and oppressed (which he undoubtedly was).

IMHO

Trump is right it will divide the party and boost the Dems. Because DeSantis is so far back in the polls the only way he has a chance of changing things is by seriously attacking Trump in the primary. And every negative thing DeSantis says about Trump will just become Dem talking points during the general. It’s obvious DeSantis can’t win so why is he running? Just to hurt Trump and please his GOPe establishment donors? The last election was stolen from Trump and he deserves a second shot to right the wrong that was done to him. So why would DeSantis choose now of all times to run when he probably would have been a shoo-in in ‘28? Only deranged anti-Trumpers support DeSantis running now.

The GOP is divided already, but at this point in time, if Trump isn’t on the ballot, I won’t be voting for anyone. I won’t hold my nose ever again, to vote for someone I don’t know, or like, just because they’ve got an R behind their name. I did that for two many years, and that’s why we are where we are today, particularly, with a Senate full of Republican a-holes.

Seems Trump is a bit concerned over DeSantis’ candidacy, which hasn’t even been declared yet. I think his fear is justified.

Will DeSantis turn his back on Rove and Krystal?

"I would have liked if Trump had decided not to run and had simply supported DeSantis which I feel could have beat Biden easily. "

Except for the fact that election fraud is alive and well, even in Florida.

Trump lost to a drooling half-wit who stayed locked away in the basement during the entirety of the campaign.

Trump did not lose to a drooling half-wit. The election was stolen by an organized cabal of media, tech, oligarchs and criminals. Apparently you don't read or get out much. There are hundreds of affidavits and dozens of videos from people attesting to Trump-voting ballots being discarded and Biden-voting ballots being dumped into the unauthorized ballot boxes or into vote counting machines. The algorithm for deliberately favoring Biden ballots on the rigged Dominion machines was discovered, yet ignored by the dimmocommie media.

Why don't YOU retire from the field before you further embarrass yourself? I hear they're going to do a "Deliverance 2" movie; you might want to audition for the banjo-playing kid.

DeSantis has a book out.

You can read and decide if he is the right guy.

Trump had four years and Republican majorities in the House and Senate for two of them as I recollect.

There was massive election illegality, but Biden’s vote buying ($10,000/student, etc.) [also illegal] was the key to his victory.

"It would have been better if Trump had not chosen to run again, but his ego would not permit it."

You wanted him to put his tail between his legs, and slouch off as if the past 8 years never happened? That's what the fascists who have been attacking him all these years want him to do. You can be a chump if you want too, but Trump sure as hell isn't one.

“media, tech, oligarchs”

What they did apparently was legal.

I voted for The Great Governor DeSantis to be Governor for another four years. If DeSantis runs for POTUS he will lose. The Democrats will not allow a DeSantis to become POTUS. Biden (or another corrupt Dem) will once again garner 81 million votes and just the right number of votes in those chosen states. Florida will lose a great Governor for what, a pipe dream?

It didn’t hurt Reagan to run against Ford in 1976

Competition is one of the things that made this country great. Nobody should expect a job to be handed to them.

If the Dems are stupid enough to run 80 yo Biden again, 76 yo DT has a chance. Otherwise, no imo. I think Biden will bow out gracefully amidst much praise as the “The man who saved us from Trump.” Trump may win the nomination with savvy Dems’ help but he won’t be elected imo. I like DT less and less as time goes on.
