The case ASSUMES the payment was in support of a federal crime. BUT, Trump was never found guilty of such a crime. Indeed, the FEC considered the matter and passed on it.
THEREFORE the cases fails. People are innocent until proven guilty. You can’t backdoor a federal crime, never committed, to shift reporting error, if it was a reporting error, from a misdemeanor into a felony, and to extend the statue of limitations.
It’s still a nonexistent crime.

Actually doesn’t this exonerate Trump? I mean Trump Jr would just need to say he did it on his own behest. Trump (senior) didn’t have any involvement/knowledge of it.

I’m sure Pres Trump was in th oval office as President when these checks were signed which means the election was over and couldn’t be election interference.
Nothing burger, since Cohen testified in 2019 that Trump Jr was “Executive 2” in his plea deal, and signed the checks. “Executive 1” was Weisselberg and “the corporation” was The Trump Foundation.
