On Friday’s broadcast of HBO’s “Real Time,” host Bill Maher argued that while the U.S. has “been quasi-socialist” for the last century-and-a-half, all advanced democracies are quasi-socialist, and the U.S. has been more socialist in the past than it is today, “we have too much socialism,” and he knows that we have too much socialism because he lives in California.
During an interview with New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu (R) where Sununu referenced the “socialist agenda” on the left, Maher said, “America has always been quasi-socialist — or at least for the last century-and-a-half. Social Security is socialism. The Marine Corps is socialism. Every advanced democracy is quasi-socialist.”
Sununu then asked, “Are you saying that where we were in America 30 years ago is where we are today?” Maher responded that he isn’t saying that, but added, “Well, in the ’50s, the tax rate went up to 70%. Sometimes, even 90. So, we actually were more socialist then” even under some Republican presidents.

How do we know bill?
He makes his arguments but socialism has economic aspects as Maher points out but also social aspects that no one should ignore.
Social Communism is coming at us like a freight train covered with rainbow flags if you will and we are all standing on the tracks.

He absolutely did. He was a cheerleader for creeping socialism and its enabling policies.
Socialism is government ownership of the means of production. The military is the means of DEstruction.
The biggest example of socialism in the US is the public school system.
He wouldn’t be the first leftist to wake up. Not to be confused with woke.
Maher has changed over the years...and toned down on a little of issues. He’s mellowed.
Or he could be playing us. It's all a show.
The audience is shifting right; he has to follow them so they will follow him.
In simplest terms means you don’t join the military, you don’t put your children in government schools, and you do whatever is necessary to work around whatever stupid government mandates and edicts you face.
I would even go so far as to suggest you might — on principle — refuse to convict any defendant in a jury trial. I’ve already resolved to do this if I ever find myself on a jury in a Federal case.
It is Communism.

Liberals LOVE to spew this BS factoid.
The FACT is yes, the tax rates for the highest brackets used to be higher, BUT there were A LOT more loopholes and things like credit card interest was deductable back then. So the reality is, the rich paid LESS in taxes back then!!! Which is why after Reagans tax reforms revenue from taxation went UP!
It is going to get a lot worse.
Without serious contravention, it may never get any better.
Many applaud the exodus from blue states. The problem is that many of those are just as leftist as the state they moved from, and their are bringing their leftist ideals with them. Leftists hardly ever clean up the messes they made.
Never watched his show directly but from clips encountered around the web he consistently sounds like a small city type democrat, which in many ways I trust less than full flaming big city leftists.

I think he started out as a self-described libertarian but quickly became mostly a standard media leftist. Maybe he has some libertarian instincts that are being awakened as the left becomes more violent and authoritarian.
