Russian Tanks Can Escape Depleted Uranium Rounds by Leaving Ukraine: NSC
MSN-Newsweek ^ | 3----21 | David Brennan

Posted on 03/24/2023 3:44:53 AM PDT by dennisw

The U.S. National Security Council spokesman has suggested the best way for Moscow's tankers to avoid the British depleted uranium munitions being sent to Ukraine would be to retreat back across the border.

London announced on Monday that it would send depleted uranium tank rounds—which are particularly effective in piercing enemy armor—along with the Challenger 2 main battle tanks being provided for Kyiv's use. The news touched off a furious reaction in Russia, where President Vladimir Putin falsely equated the munitions to nuclear weapons.

NSC spokesman John Kirby on Wednesday dismissed the Kremlin's concerns about the depleted uranium munitions during a briefing with journalists.

"And if that's really the concern—if the Russians are very concerned about their tanks staying fully operational—they can just take them across the border back into Russia and take them out of Ukraine; they don't belong there in the first place. That would be my recommendation if they're concerned about threats to their tanks."

Depleted uranium rounds are 70 percent denser than lead, producing significantly more kinetic energy. On contact with armor, parts of the rounds sheer off and self-sharpen, making their passage more deadly to tankers inside armored vehicles. Smaller than lead alternatives with the same mass, depleted uranium rounds have less aerodynamic drag and can hit targets at longer ranges. They are also inherently incendiary.

"It's going to be a bad day for Russian tankers when they meet the depleted uranium munitions, because there's simply nothing they can do to defend themselves against those," Mark Voyger—a former special adviser for Russian and Eurasian affairs to ex-commanding general of U.S. Army Europe Ben Hodges—told Newsweek.

"No Russian tank, as far as I know, can withstand such a hit," Voyger—now a non-resident senior fellow at Center for European Analysis and professor at American University of Kyiv—added.

you’re encouraging more fighting

There won't be much fighting if blowhards like you beat the war drum while refusing to go yourself. What's wrong with Canadians? Are you all gutless?

And if NATO withdraws to it’s 1991 borders, peace will come.

"I did go along with Bushy that Saddam had nukes. Now it turns out this was propaganda"

Dimwit, since you admit you fell for Neocon war propaganda once, please explain how you aren't doing it again.

so there’s no point in going anymore, right?

You tell me. Are you now refusing to join your NATO comrades, after promising you would? And is it true that Canadians are all talk and no action?

By your own admission you also bought into all the pro-Bush war propaganda that caused the deaths of millions of innocent Iraqis.

So did you, clown. FR was very supportive of Bushy back then. These days I know these were dumb wars in Muslim nations, Iraq and Afghanistan. Never waste your time bringing democracy and women's rights to Muslim nations. The inhabitants like their kings, strongmen and dictators. Afghanistan turned into a 20 year long social work, meals on wheels program led by State Department and countless female led, do-gooder NGOs based in Washingtoooon DC.

While Ukraine is a Christian nation that wants to economically, culturally tilt more towards Western European. And away from the stoopid Russians. No one likes the Russkies! Putin hates them too, sending 100,00o plus Russkies to their deaths in Putin's war on Ukraine.

The "coup" was an internal affair of a sovreign nation.

None of Russia's business.

Russia was fine with corruption in Ukraine, as long as they controlled it.

Nobody abided by the Minsk accords, including Russia, DPR, LPR.

Zelensky did not have the constitutional power to grant autonomy to Donbas.

It would have to be voted on in a countrywide referendum and never would have passed.

Ethnic Russians were never the majority in Donbas, except, probably now, after 8 years of ethnically cleansing the Ukrainians.

There are plenty of bad actors in this war and Putin is one of them. I try to stay out of the public discussions on the war, but, sometimes the BS is too much to let slide.

As long as NATO pours $billions into the fray, it remains on, despite the loss of 1000s of Ukes per day. I’d like you to be part of that number. So again I ask you, are you a Canadian coward, or are you going to honor your commitment?

Pirate Preston. Ukraine is Christian European. It is not Muslim Iraq or Afghanistan. Big difference that you just don’t get. Your mind is too weak to get this. Ukraine is very much worth the US supplying them guns and money.

Russian revanchism is no big deal to you.

Ukraine is Christian European.

Zelenskyy outlawed Christianity. And opposing political parties, while censoring the media. Yet you call it Christian? How much of a Dimwit are you?

Now, back to my question.

Since you fell for Bush's Neocon war propaganda once, please tell us how you aren't doing it once again.

Russia v Ukraine is long over.

Russia v NATO is ongoing, but not for long. And certainly not long given Cowards like you who say they will fight, but refuse when pressed. You realize if you were living in Kiev, rather than Canada, you'd literally be snatched up and dragged to the front. That's how desperate they are for cannon fodder, even someone as weak and frightened as you are.

Yep. Russia has proven its army, navy, and Air Force are completely inept. They are no longer a viable force for a combined invasion. Their ground forces have proven their logistics are horrible. They can’t get get 45 miles further than a logistical depot. Ukraine has shown with great efficiency, HIMARS can take these out with no sweat.

NATO is through.

the kinetic impact it makes upon striking armor plate is far greater than that of lead or other combinations of alloys commonly used for projectile weaponry

And the vaporized heavy metals produced on impact are far more poisonous then other dense metals. How many people will be poisoned and how many birth defects will happen because of this? Who cares, right. It's just Ukraine, not like it affects us.

Haha, you know what is hilarious? When the Russians get some of these depleted uranium bombs from the Ukrainian black market and have them delivered to the western streets for a “terrorist” act. Then all the pig headed neocons can really virus signal more arms and war is needed. The collective west and anyone that remotely supports what we’re doing in this war is insane. Hell, Russia hasn’t done a fraction of what the US has been doing around the world for decades. Karma is a bitch.
