What Ex-Colonel Douglas Macgregor Has Said About Ukraine War
Newsweek ^ | 20th March 2022 | Natalie Colorossi

Posted on 03/22/2023 12:22:09 PM PDT by Cronos

...In multiple interviews, Macgregor has confidently predicted that the conflict will end with Russia "annihilating" Ukrainian forces and winning the war. One such interview, with Carlson, was aired on Russia's state-controlled TV.

..."The battle in eastern Ukraine is really almost over, all of the Ukrainian troops there have been largely surrounded and cut off. You have a concentration down in the Southeast of 30 or 40,000 of them, and if they don't surrender in the next 24 hours, I suspect Russia will ultimately annihilate them."

Macgregor added that he believed Zelensky needed to "negotiate the best deal he can get," even if that means surrendering parts of eastern Ukraine to Russian forces and declaring neutrality in Western Ukraine. Later in the interview, Macgregor claimed that Western media is working to "demonize" Putin and Russia, and added that the U.S. should stay out of the conflict—and avoid sending any aid to Ukrainian forces.

Days later, Macgregor appeared in an interview with Fox Business' Stuart Varney and claimed that Russian forces had been too gentle in their initial attacks.

"The first five days Russian forces I think frankly were too gentle," he said. "They've now corrected that. So, I would say another 10 days this should be completely over."

On Thursday, Macgregor told Carlson that he believes Ukrainians have already been defeated and that both nations "are very close right now to a ceasefire."

"The war is really over for the Ukrainians," Macgregor said

Macgregor never improved, he just kept saying the same thing over and over, always that it is over, Ukraine is done now.

Every month the same prediction.

Update on Russian military operations in Ukraine for March 23, 2023:

- Russian forces continue encircling the fortified cities of Bakhmut and now Avdeevka, two major points along Ukraine's defense line in the Donbass;

- Ukraine is gearing up for its upcoming offensive, carrying out drone strikes on Crimea and reconnaissance by force along the line of contact in Zaporozhye;

- the stated goal of Ukraine according to Western reports is to cut the land-bridge between Crimea and the rest of Russia, though that would hardly isolate Crimea entirely;

- Ukraine would suffer immense losses, just as they did during the Kharkov /Kherson offensives last year, with the addition of many more Russian troops and extensive defensive works created months in advance;

- The US and EU are surging remaining stockpiles of artillery ammunition to Ukraine ahead of the offensive to sustain 2-4 months of intense fighting. Once depleted it will take years for the West to restore these stockpiles;

- Russian shell production appears to have exceeded Western output as early as 2014-2015 and has continuously increased since meaning Russia's ability to regenerate combat power exceeds the West's at this moment;

“Douglas MacGregor has been predicting an imminent defeat of Ukraine for a solid year now”

Well, I imagine if they keep paying him to say something, then he will keep saying it as long as the checks clear.

The US never made any deal with Gorbachev about NATO.

There’s no agreement, no treaty, no resolution that says this. Just BS from Russian propagandists.

I believe the Pentagon mad some of the same predictions. They were wrong because Putin did come in very soft, and he remained soft for quite some time, which allowed Ukraine to even regain some territory back.

But of course, you refuse to believe that. Instead you choose to believe that Ukraine has a chance to win.

Douglas MacGregor has been predicting an imminent defeat of Ukraine for a solid year now

This is his statement from approximately 20th March, 2022, just over a year ago:

"The battle in eastern Ukraine is really almost over, all of the Ukrainian troops there have been largely surrounded and cut off. You have a concentration down in the Southeast of 30 or 40,000 of them, and if they don't surrender in the next 24 hours, I suspect Russia will ultimately annihilate them."

Later in the interview, Macgregor claimed that Western media is working to "demonize" Putin and Russia, and added that the U.S. should stay out of the conflict—and avoid sending any aid to Ukrainian forces.
The whole invasion was in response to American, thereby NATO and EU encroachment on Russian autonomy.   Macgregor stated what was about to happen if we had stayed out of it.   We didn't, so Colonel Macgregor must modify his comments every time we escalate our proxy war, but you know this, yet seek to obfuscate the truth.

There is no reference and that’s the point. Vague recollections of vague promises do not form international policy.

“...the U.S. made a deal with Gorbachev, that if the USSR did not push back on German reunification, then NATO would not expand into Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Poland.”

Lie. There was no such deal. Even Gorbachev — who was present at the meeting where the alleged “deal” was made — said there was never any such deal or agreement.

“- Ukrainian army proceeds to murder over 14,000 ethnic Russians in the eastern Donbass region.”

Lie. But, you Russian propagandists never tire of trotting it out.

The 14,000 number you all trot out refers to ALL deaths in the civil war, between 2014 and 2021. Of that 14,000, fewer than 4,000 were civilians. The majority were combatants from both sides. Interestingly enough, that 14,000 number does not include the 280 or so civilians killed when Russian-backed and supplied separatists shot down MH17, a Malaysian airliner, killing all on board.

” surprise surprise Biden presses NATO expansion into Ukraine with further provocations by Sweden and Finland joining NATO, which is currently under way.”

Lie. In 2008 Ukraine and Georgia expressed the desire to join NATO (Bush II was president). The Bush administration and the Obama administration and the Trump administration all entertained the idea, but never seriously pursued it because they knew there was no way that Ukraine met the criteria for membership (though in the future it might). Sweden and Finland were quite content with their neutral status, UNTIL Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022. Then, they took note of Russia’s aggression, and its history of taking over neighboring countries, and decided there was too much risk from Russia to remain neutral, so they sought membership in NATO.

“- Biden destroys the Nordstream 2 pipeline and blames it on Russia. The first time the U.S. has attacked the major infrastructure of an ally (Germany). A further major provocation.”

Prove it. You and your fellow Russian apologists began making that claim the day the explosions occurred. You WANT it to be so; so, in your system of justice, it IS so. However, in our legal system one is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, and there has been no adjudication of guilt — of ANYONE. You have already convicted the president of an act of war, based upon innuendo, hearsay, and wishful thinking. I detest Joe Biden, but he is still entitled to the protections of our laws. And you would deny him those protections.

“- just imagine if the Chinese CCP conducted similar actions along the Canadian and Mexican borders. Would we accept Chinese military bases with nukes along our borders? This is what Putin was forced to deal with when Biden threatened NATO expansion into Ukraine and other countries.”

Too funny! You guys trot this out on a regular basis, as well. And you usually cite the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis. The fact remains that we did not have a problem with Russian troops in Cuba. What we had a problem with was The Soviets introducing into Cuba OFFENSIVE nuclear missiles, with the range to his all of the “lower 48” with the exception of a narrow slice of pie at the extreme upper Northwest. There are NO US nukes on Russia’s borders: There are none in Poland; there are none in Lithuania; there are none in Latvia; there are none in Estonia; there are none in Norway. There are some in Turkey, but Turkey shares no land border with Russia; and there are hundreds of miles of Black Sea between Turkey and Russia.

You argue like a BLAME AMERICA FIRST zealot instead of an AMERICA FIRST patriot.

“The whole invasion was in response to American, thereby NATO and EU encroachment on Russian autonomy.”

What Russian autonomy (self-governance) did the US and NATO encroach upon?

Gorbachev himself even said that there was never any promise.

https://www.brookings.edu/blog/up-front/2014/11/06/did-nato-promise-not-to-enlarge-gorbachev-says-no/

>The interviewer asked why Gorbachev did not “insist that the promises made to you [Gorbachev]—particularly U.S. Secretary of State James Baker’s promise that NATO would not expand into the East—be legally encoded?” Gorbachev replied: “The topic of ‘NATO expansion’ was not discussed at all, and it wasn’t brought up in those years. … Another issue we brought up was discussed: making sure that NATO’s military structures would not advance and that additional armed forces would not be deployed on the territory of the then-GDR after German reunification. Baker’s statement was made in that context… Everything that could have been and needed to be done to solidify that political obligation was done. And fulfilled.”

What Gardiner linked was an opinion by an academic Svetlana Savranskaya and she is just making things up ... publishing this nonsense even AFTER Gorbachev himself had denied all of it.
