Nearly a third of the LGBT+ characters to have featured on US TV over the past year will not be returning in future, a new report has revealed.
Over the period between 1 June 2022 and 31 May 2023, a total of 596 LGBT+ characters were featured on scripted TV.
Of these, 175 will not be returning in the following season, as a result of series being cancelled or coming to a pre-agreed end. The majority of these characters (140) are the result of series being cancelled.
The statistics are taken from the annual report published by the US media monitoring organisation GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation).
The report takes into account LGBT+ characters across scripted primetime broadcast networks, scripted primetime cable networks, and scripted series on the eight major US streaming platforms: Prime Video, Hulu, Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, Peacock, and Paramount+.

The average American has no desire to see disgusting acts by homos in their homes.

I have liked the NCIS series, but Hawaii was an absolute no go for this very reason.
It’s overexposure of a group of people who are only about 3% of the population, although their share of the creative class is much higher. I’ve always said that blacks and gays have been overrepresented in tv and movies since the 1980s, while Asians, Hispanics, and believing Christian characters have been underrepresented.

About a third for the broadcast networks. The percentage, it’s said, is going down. Everything is a reboot of something more popular, and nobody’s watching anyway.
The percentage of non-returning shows is probably higher on cable and streaming channels, but there’s no purge of gay shows and characters.
The story is just to attract attention and funding for GLAAD. I wonder if they’re a registered talent agency now and get their 15% from LGBTQ+ performers

I assume you are referring to the “dancing” Negroes who are used in sitcoms/commercials, which would deeply offend me if I was black. I have always been curious how these companies approach their advertising creators. “We want to do a something featuring all black actors, just make sure they can dance, hip-hop and speak ghetto”.

I used to watch Andy Griffith pretty often on TV Land. They always had Rue Paul’s drag show in the commercials.
I finally got on their web site and told them that people can live the way they want, but probably the people watching Mayberry just wanted a good old comedy and no amount of pushing could get them to turn on a drag queen show. Seemed like a waste of money, besides a poke in their viewers’ eyes...
No response, of course, but I felt better.
Andy shows every weeknight on Me-Tv, which is usually a .2 digital channel in many markets-followed by the Beverly Hillbillies.

Yup. I'm waiting for normal black people to start asking why they don't know anyone like the black people in the commercials.
