Nearly a third of the LGBT+ characters to have featured on US TV over the past year will not be returning in future, a new report has revealed.
Over the period between 1 June 2022 and 31 May 2023, a total of 596 LGBT+ characters were featured on scripted TV.
Of these, 175 will not be returning in the following season, as a result of series being cancelled or coming to a pre-agreed end. The majority of these characters (140) are the result of series being cancelled.
The statistics are taken from the annual report published by the US media monitoring organisation GLAAD (Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation).
The report takes into account LGBT+ characters across scripted primetime broadcast networks, scripted primetime cable networks, and scripted series on the eight major US streaming platforms: Prime Video, Hulu, Netflix, Apple TV+, Disney+, HBO Max, Peacock, and Paramount+.
Sarah Kate Ellis, CEO of GLAAD, describes the significant cancellation rates of LGBT+ “disappointing”.

Not only that, it's become commonplace for Blacks to drive $100,000 Cadillac Escalades, so apparently there is not longer a need for reparations.
Don’t say GAY! HOMOSEXUAL, because there’s nothing GAY about it.

Like it or not the term “gay” in this context means homosexual so they are interchangeable.
Don’t say GAY! HOMOSEXUAL, because there’s nothing GAY about it.
I prefer “voluntarily untreated dangerous mentally ill individual”.
What makes me really ticked off is when they take a character that has been straight for several seasons and, out of the blue, make them gay or trans.
Gee, I wonder if anyone will put the push for "gay" characters; and, the series being cancelled? I doubt it; but it seems obvious from this article.
I have noticed a complete dearth of white couples. Or white people generally. You will see a white/black combo more often; but, not as often as black couples.
As an ACTUAL woman, lately I have been feeling like women are being erased. Especially white women. Mixed coupling seems to be getting a lot more prevelent. Gay guy couples seem more prevelent than white man/woman couples.
I have come to hate the world I live in.
Letting THEM frame the conversation is part of the problem.
What I’m sick of is the depiction of AA men and W women as
couples in these shows. You’d think over 80.00% of W women
were marrying AA men these days.
Yeah it happens, but quit gaming reality.
I’m not against it either. It’s just annoying to have these
depictions be so incredibly false.
Yex, the article is saying 1/3 of homosexual characters are in being cancelled. What percentage of TV shows are cancelled every year?
Mixed race couples are far more frequent in The South than what many people think possible.
Always have been, even during the KKK era and Jim Crow laws, all the way back to, and previous to, the Civil War.................
True... my pastor had a series on homosexuality (and pre-/extra- marital sex in general) and showed several statistics that showed “self-identified” gay people were 3-4%, and in the last decade it doubled to 6-8%.
Tyranny of the minority.
Thanks for the mention. I think that’s probably a reasoned
observation.
What occurs to me is that even at max 13.00% of the populace
can’t be marrying 60% of the populace.
Watching commercials and television shows, you sure wouldn’t
know it. You’d think they were marrying at least 70.00%.
After removing a full one-third of queer TV characters, the LGBTQ2(^ group will still be OVER REPRESENTED on TV by a factor of 1000!!
Wow, that’s cool. Thanks for posting.
Yeah I’m one of those people who likes listening to a sports event on the radio. You can walk around and do stuff and still hear the event and get an idea of what’s going on, and you’re not just sitting staring at the boob tube, snacking, and getting fat, frustrated, and unhealthy.
