Ron DeSantis on Trump: I can't speak to porn star payments
BBC News ^ | March 20 | By Anthony Zurcher

Posted on 03/20/2023 11:18:48 AM PDT by RandFan

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, when asked about rumours of former President Donald Trump's impending indictment, denounced the man in charge of the investigation, New York District Attorney Alvin Bragg.

What the man who might be Mr Trump's most formidable presidential rival said next, however, was telling.

"I don't know what goes into paying hush money to a porn star to secure silence over some type of alleged affair," he said. "I just I can't speak to that."

He went on to mention "porn star hush money payments" a second time, before pivoting back to criticism of what he called a "high-profile politicised prosecution" by a prosecutor he said was backed by deep-pocketed liberal donor George Soros.

The Florida governor seemed to go out of way to emphasise the tawdry origins of the potential crimes being investigated, even while denouncing the investigation itself.

That could be a sign of how Mr Trump's presidential rivals handle a possible arrest and criminal trial for falsifying business records and state campaign finance law violations.

Mr DeSantis had been under pressure from Trump supporters to defend the former president and denounce the prosecution ever since the Mr Trump speculated on his social media website that he would be arrested on Tuesday.

I prefer Senator Cruz’s response:

~snip~

How about this response from Cruz as well:

"I think many Americans are taken aback at the unprecedented indictment of a former president, but also the fact that the Manhattan DA, in the midst of a crime wave in New York City, then says that indicting the former president is his highest priority," he said on Saturday. "It tells you everything you need to know about the liberal left in this country."

Oh wait. Cruz didn't says that. DeSantis did. It's amazing how you Trumpians overlook the complete message and pick on one aspect of the reply.

Easy for me to think of my response:

“I’d like Bill Clinton’s $850,000 payment to Paula Jones resolved first.”

You left out him gleefully saying “porn star hush money”. Twice. Even got a laugh out of the crowd. Classy.

What’s RDS going to do when he is likewise falsely accused?

... I would’ve defended DeSantis from here to the high heavens, but what he has demonstrated of late with the illegal raiding of trump’s home and now this speaks volumes.

Do you not know DeSantis denounced the raid on Mara-Lago and spoke in favor of Trump regarding that incident?

Which proves what? I remember when Conservatives believed in innocent until proven guilty, not for Trump apparently.

We do know for a fact that Trump paid her $150,000

Really? show me where. In truth, his lawyer paid it and originally testified he did it without Trump knowing. Where is your proof of your so called fact?

FLASHBACK: Hillary Clinton quietly settled campaign finance violation last year, was NEVER ARRESTED

Clinton was given a $113,000 fine, Trump is looking at the possibility of handcuffs—for the same thing.

So they want to pretend Trump knew and ordered Michael Cohen to pay Stormy Daniels 130,000 despite the fact that Michael Cohen is a liar and criminal who actually stole over 300,000 from Stormy Daniels?
The same Stormy Daniels who had to pay Trump 400,000?
Does that make sense to a sane person? No it doesn’t. So no intent means no crime.

The only thing Bragg has going for him is the NYC jury pool.

...too cute by half...

Exactly. Very (Jeb) Bush-league response. RDS once again tries to be like Trump but without the personality. If Trump decided on that line of attack, a new spot-on nickname would be in play.

Instead we get the debate nerds' flaccid attempt and RDS leaning into his DeSanctimonius nickname.

He is Crenshaw2…here in Texas we’ve had to swallow that insufferable piece of crap every election cycle and DeSantis is rapidly becoming a mirror image of that POS! And here in Texas we know what Crenshaw smells like. And it ain’t pretty.

This article is from fake news BBC.

Check the alleged source quote before tarring DeSantis.

No one cares about Tax evasion?

I do.

But it is at best a misdemeanor. And if Trump did so under council by his attorney and CPA, then while he is still liable for a fine he also has cause to go after them.

Again. I care. I care about traffic tickets (have to in my job). But there is a level of “Well, that was stupid of you. Don’t do it again.” versus “HANG HIM!”

If he paid off a porn star while I don’t approve, as long as it was correctly recorded it is not a crime.

Labeling it at as deductible cost MAY be a crime. From what I read it is. Tax evasion is a crime, and everyone should be held accountable.

If Trump did it under council, then it is more the fault of the people he paid to give him council.

I like both of them too. May the best man win.

Trump negatives are his blindness to the negatives of the homo political agenda and his several bad picks. But he was a great president and was robbed of his second term so there is a sense of justice to his nomination.

“Career” politician is not a net negative to me. DeSantis has earned his stripes and knows how the sausage is made which is good imo. He is running Florida well and would make an excellent president as far as I can judge.

"We do know for a fact that Trump paid her $150,000 and made her sign a non-disclosure agreement. I don’t think she was paid that kind of money for false allegations."

Wealthy people pay small-time blackmailers all the time. This is nuisance money to a billionaire.

It is like me paying a $5 parking ticket instead of going to court to fight it.

Probably wilt, or sell us out. Trump's ability to withstand the onslaught and keep fighting back is extraordinary and historic. I dont see RDS in that mold. Especially after this weekend.

Good question. Except we know what RDS will do when he is falsely accused.

Problem is... Trump has been the one making the false accusations.

Didn’t Jeb Bush do a decent job at being governor of Florida too?

Hmmm? Interesting similarities...
