Donald Trump: I’d have let Putin annex part of Ukraine to end the war
The Telegraph ^ | March 9, 2023 | Nick Allen

Posted on 03/09/2023 10:56:57 PM PST by familyop

The former president told Sean Hannity’s radio show:...Mr Trump added: “That’s without even negotiating a deal. I could have negotiated. At worst, I could have made a deal to take over something, you know, there are certain areas that are Russian speaking areas, right, like, but you could have worked a deal. And now Ukraine is just being blown to smithereens.”

If so… when did we make Ukraine the 51st state? I missed that.

It is not our responsibility to defend every nation in the world. We do not have a treaty with Ukraine (at least not a public one) and so we do not have a dog in this hunt.

European nations are the ones that should be leading this war (if they actually wanted to defend Ukraine).

So, yeah, I would have no problem allowing Russia to do what ever they think they could get away with.

Now if Russia was to attack a NATO nation that is another story (although I am not sure what we get out of being part of NATO other then paying the bills).

Ukraine never existed until the 19th century. For hundreds of years before that, most of it was Russian anyway. Give the other half to Poland.

The language argument is such an incredibly weak one to make. That people mindlessly repeat it is sad. It would, for example, justify the UK (re)annexing large parts of the world. Or the USA doing the same. Or parts of the southwest joining Mexico, Spain (re)annexing much of South America, France the francophone countries, and so on. Many countries that speak English, Russian, Spanish, French, and so on do so because they were once colonized by another country. That doesn’t give the former colonizer any rights to their territory.

This is BS, Putin would never have attacked if President Trump didn't have his election victory stolen by execrable scumbag traitors who should be tried for treason.

This never would have been an issue for the first President in decades who started NO wars.

And after wiping out hundreds of Russian "mercenaries" (SOLDIERS!) in Syria, Putin was hiding under his bed until the next election was stolen by a mouth-frothing decrepit, chicom owned pedophile.

Zelensky isn't even at war with Russia. It's the USA and the EU vs Russia. Zelensky is just donating his people as fodder.

Tell that to the Ukrainian people who are fighting to preserve Ukrainian independence.

The United States used military force — under some kind of fabricated NATO need — to break up Yugoslavia in the 1990s. We also invade countries and kill thousands of people at will.

Trump is simply acknowledging that the U.S. has no credibility when it comes to protecting the territorial integrity of nations anymore.

Implement the 2015 Minsk Agreement.

You mean the agreement where Russia was supposed to end their support for the Donbas militias, allow Ukraine to reestablish control over Donbas, and have free referenda on their status; the agreement that Russia and its surrogates refused to honor? That Minsk Agreement?

Yugoslavia broke itself up before anyone intervened.
Then it fell into very bloody wars. Again, before anyone intervened.
And then NATO intervened, as this mess was stinking up the neighborhood.

As long as Putin agreed to just annex the very Russian parts, if they voted for reunification, that would have been the best way to prevent a war, imo.

I'm going to start off by saying there are NO GOOD GUYS in this war, period. I'm not for either side. Both are corrupt AF, American Taxpayers are footing the bill on the Ukranian side to our own detrement and the result of all this is the US is net exporting energy to Europe to keep them warm while we freeze. 10% for the "big guy" 'n all that.

With that out of the way, the lesson from WW2 that appeasement never works appears to have been forgotten.

First Putin took Crimea and under the Obama Administration the US essentially looked the other day.

Now Putin wants more of Ukraine, so the solution is to give it to him?

Do we not see what's happening here?

"Give" Putin the Russian-speaking parts of Ukraine after he took Crimea and he'll be back again for more. If he's still alive. If not, surely his appointed successor will.

Appeasement NEVER works.

Yes, the same agreement that Ukraine agreed to give the Donbas more autonomy. The Ukrainian parliament never passed the legislation it was obligated to do so. We now know that the Ukrainians and their allies were not operating in good faith. They signed the agreement to buy time so Ukraine could arm itself.

Former German Chancellor Merkel admits the Minsk agreement was merely to buy time for Ukraine’s arms build-up

According to former German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Minsk agreement served to buy time to rearm Ukraine. “The 2014 Minsk agreement was an attempt to give Ukraine time,” Merkel told the weekly Die Zeit. “It also used this time to become stronger, as you can see today.”

This war, I believe, was intended to go nuclear.
And that is where it is going to go, imo.

“Putin would never have attacked if President Trump didn’t have his election victory stolen by execrable scumbag traitors “

This is true. Trump would have scared Putin off. Or rather, Putin wouldn’t have dared. And Trump wouldn’t have signed off on Nordstream.

I’m not advocating appeasement, per se.
Just a realignment of territory where Russia has a legitimate concern about it’s ethnic people.
Outside of that, I would not appease Russia any further than that.

Sounds like Trump wants PEACE, unlike the Democrats and the Neocons (who seem to get a lot of support here from a relative handful of people).
