In fairness to Dr. Redfield he was pretty consistent about this but the media selected Fauci and Collins to interview because what they said would get rid of Trump.
Step back and look at this logically......
IF the lab leak was true what would the news have reported at that time? That China, our enemy, screwed up and accidentally released a bioweapon engineered by the People’s Liberation Army, in Wuhan, China. They also allowed travel to and from Wuhan spreading the virus throughout the world (it likely would have spread anyways).
You have to view the event within the timeframe and what we knew in the moment. The NIH funding was not uncovered until later.
Who was the candidate that would have benefited from the American people thinking that China deliberately dropped a bomb on our nation? Trump or Biden?
This was politics. They used Covid to damage Trump and change an election and even then he still got more votes than any other Republican in history.
Sure, the NIH bureaucracy tried to cover themselves, but the real power players wanted a narrative that would help them get rid of Trump and they got it. The media did everything they could to protect China and to damage Trump.
That is why they sidelined Redfield. While I don’t view him as a “hero” given the corruption we now see in our health bureaucracy, but he was more honest than the rest of them.

He did. He fooled the people who mattered..... the media and politicians (who wanted to be fooled for their own interests). They used “Covid” to change an election and get rid of Donald Trump.
If they had told the truth from the outset there would have been far more “outrage” towards China (and pro-China politicians) because we still did not know at that point that Fauci funded their lab.
By saying it was an “accident” it put the focus on “Trump” and they could accuse him of being xenophobic by simply calling it the Wuhan flu or the China virus.

This flawed system as well as the ability to control the schedule and what bills are allowed out of committee(s) is the real power in congress. Individual members are powerless to stop the leaders unless it is an all or nothing proposition like we saw with the Speaker race in the house recently where a small group wielded enough power to gain concessions.
The “GOP” needs a LOT more fire in the senate and to do that we will have to primary a lot of GOP senators. It’s coming and it is why a few of them are “retiring”. Will it be enough to change the personality? I don’t know and I kind of doubt it because the Senate is a weird creature.

Based on the news of the time, I 100% believe it was released intentionally to cause a panic to crash the economy specifically to take out Trump. There is no doubt in my mind anymore
I’m with you 100% FRiend. The RATS wanted complete control of the “elections”. They needed an excuse, no matter how chickensh*t it was to flood the post office with “mail in banana ballots”. Covid, in cahoots with the Chinese was the answer. All of the idiots claiming that 2020 and 2022 were not stolen are just a bunch of liberal ass kissers without a clue. Anyone with a brain knows that there is no way a cranky, demented old white retard can get 80 million votes when the boy never hit the campaign trail for more than one day. He spent the entire campaign locked up in a basement by his Snowflake and Zero Gs handlers. They couldn’t allow him out in public until they had the full RAT “media” to defend him and his empty, lyin’ skull.

Redfield, whatever else one might think of him, is a top virologist, and his explanation in that 2nd link makes a GREAT deal of sense.
The one thing I would ask him is how many villagers who lived near the bat caves were discovered back in 2014 (IIRC) to have bat coronavirus antibodies? If it was just a few, his hypothesis makes perfect sense. If it was fairly common for the villagers to handle / process for eating bats, and quite a % of villagers had antibodies, then his hypothesis still makes sense. If it wasn’t common for the villagers to handle bats B4 cooking (which would render them safe, if a bit disgusting to most Westerners), and quite a few villagers had bat antibodies, but the outbreak was confined to some isolated village(s), then I would guess at limited-to-moderate human-to-human transmissibility at that point.
If the virus had vigorously spread further (these villages are not TOTALLY isolated), one might guess high natural transmissibility, but, that apparently never happened.
Note that ebola, for example, appears to be able to jump around between a variety of hosts, but, thank goodness, is much less transmissible. In a rough way, that “makes sense”. High transmissibility may require “specialization” (or refinement?) of the virus to best target a certain species.
So then then the question is whether the gain of function was making the jump to humans (not unusual naturally), or becoming moderately human-to-human transmissible (not unheard of, naturally), or was the GOF increased transmissibility with lower severity (very likely doable in an advanced lab, but, as argued many times over here on FR, a natural tendency). The thing is, that last doesn’t seem to occur in nature until a virus gets established in a largish population — I suppose it must take many many trillions of mutations for the “right” one to come along.)
Note that Redfield correctly states “most likely” pending deeper investigation. But the part about that same lab working with placement of the ACE2 receptor into humanized mouse tissue (which is still not working with the virus’ coding directly) is a bit spooky. Playing around with the virus itself would be a logical next step, if one was convinced they could contain the virus.
Now, all that said, eventually some nasty virus with at least moderately high transmissibility (more like Spanish flu?) was / is bound to propagate naturally anyway. The issue is how to slow its spread so most of the world can be better prepared. I doubt China could have totally contained COVID, as Trump alleges, without killing a lot more Chinese by extreme shutdowns / mitigation, but, the spread of COVID out from China could have certainly been slowed down.
It would be interesting, though, to ask Dr. Redfield if he would put numbers to his "likelies". Ie., in his view, is it 90% probable that lab GOF was involved? More? Less?
