New York Times journalist and “1619 Project” creator Nikole Hannah-Jones attempted to lecture a survivor of Mao’s Cultural Revolution about oppression in a fierce exchange online.
Hannah-Jones, whose most prominent contribution to journalism is her set of New York Times Magazine essays claiming that America was founded by the British colonists in order to safeguard and promote slavery, sparred with CRT opponent Xi Van Fleet on Twitter Sunday after the Maoist survivor challenged Jones’ rejection of “American exceptionalism.”
In a three-part thread, Hannah-Jones argued that Black history is under attack because “our very presence on these lands is the greatest rebuke to the narrative of American exceptionalism.”
“Yourself and I, an immigrant from China with 200 borrowed dollars in my pocket when I arrived more than 30 yrs ago, are the proof of American Exceptionalism,” Van Fleet fired back.
When pressed to elaborate by Hannah-Jones, Van Fleet argued that natural rights are unique to America’s founding, telling Jones that because “of it we were able to abolish slavery, Jim Crow, anti-Chinese laws … to allow individuals to succeed.
“What is not unique to America is slavery, which still exists today,” she added. “Ppl fighting for human rights in China are jailed by CCP.”
“Ma’am,” Hannah-Jones retorted, “the idea of natural rights may have been unique, but 1/5th of the population was enslaved at our founding and had no “natural rights.”
Further, you do not think protesters in the US face state violence and arrest? You think the US has no political prisoners?

As some folks say — America doesn’t have a race problem. America has a problem race.
In their minds even Jesus wasn’t as oppressed as black race
Nikole Hannah-Jones needs to be denounced then sent to a pig farm for a year to shovel pig feces by hand.
On "google dot cn" all you got were beautiful photos of the Square with happy people seeing Chairman Mao looking down upon them lovingly. Not a single bloody student...not a single dead student...not a single column of Soviet built tanks.
So this NY Times Maoist can go fornicate herself IMO.
Retarded, dizzy socialist broad in a Ronald McDonald wig and a worthless college diploma in Black Mythology. Now there is someone to inspire you if you’re not doing anything but waiting for the next Kwanzaa Party anyway. ROTFL!
Xi Van Fleet is a powerful and articulate defender of our country, her love for it shining through every word.
“Ma’am,” Hannah-Jones retorted, “the idea of natural rights may have been unique, but 1/5th of the population was enslaved at our founding and had no “natural rights.”Somebody needs to put this child through a remedial logic course.
They did have natural rights. Maybe they were not allowed to exercise them freely, but they had them. Natural rights are not given by any founding documents.
Further, you do not think protesters in the US face state violence and arrest? You think the US has no political prisoners?
She is correct, just not in the way she intended.
Find a place on earth that does not have a history of slavery and move there. May I suggest Antarctica.
Nikole Hannah-Jones wishes desperately she was enslaved so she could say she was right...
unfortunately, my white privilege forbids me from giving a damn about the ramblings of racist black lunatic. Why should any white person give a damn about black people anymore?
Thank God in heaven, we won't be hearing their crap!
“Xi Van Fleet is a powerful and articulate defender of our country, her love for it shining through every word.”
Indeed. I’ll take the arguments from someone coming out of real-lived tyranny over the viewpoints of one coming from an imagined tyranny all day long.
They abuse and bastardize the word privilege by failing to recognize their own.
Um.... yea. We do! They're DJT supporters who went to DC on Jan 6.
well said.
And with 'leaders' like that lady, they're getting FARTHER behind.
