Press: History shines more favorable light on Carter presidency
The Hill ^ | 02-28-2023 | Bill Press

Word that former President Jimmy Carter decided to forgo any further medical treatment and enter hospice care triggered not only an avalanche of well-wishes for our 39th president but a long-overdue reassessment of his presidency.

At a final breakfast with Democratic leaders, after Carter had lost the 1980 election, House Speaker Tip O’Neill (D-Mass.) reassured the soon-to-be former president: “My heart and my door will always be open to you. History will treat you well.”

O’Neill’s prediction may finally be coming true, but it took a long time to get there. Indeed, as Carter biographer Kai Bird wrote recently in The New York Times, he remains “the most misunderstood president of the last century.”

For the most part, his presidency, cut short after only one term, is considered a total failure. Carter is still portrayed as in over his head, obsessed with petty details, mean-spirited, and out-of-touch with average Americans.

I remember this incompetent boob well; his presidency was a total disaster from Day One. Gas lines, raging inflation, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, the simpleton Iran hostage mess, the rescue disaster, idiots on his staff, a real clown. Reappraisal?? Only among the leftist press and their acolytes in academia.

Maybe third worst after Xiden and Obama. Throw in LBJ and James Buchanan, and maybe he drops to 5th.

Carter was a catastrophe for the US with the overthrow of the Shah and the installation of the Muslim terror regime in Teheran and the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Domestically Carter fully flexed the regulatory strangulation of America by Nixon's new alphabet agencies.

The Biden regime's catastrophic foreign policy concessions leading to Putin's invasion of Ukraine and the eerie similarity of the Afghanistan debacle to the shah's overthrow show exactly how bad Carter's administration actually was.

Two things:

1. The Hill....Worthless liberal rag

2. The author...Bill Press is an American talk radio host, podcaster, liberal pundit and author. He was chairman of the California Democratic Party from 1993 to 1996, and is a senior political contributor on CNN...Worthless liberal rag writer...

Carter caused Mugabe to reign over Zimbabwe resulting in countless deaths and starvation, Carter cease Iran to revert back to a theoretic tyrannical government that brutally oppressed it’s citizens, cater decimated our military emboldening Iran to take the hostages and his polices caused severe inflation and energy shortages across the country, Carter was a rabid anti-Semitic.

No history does not reflect well on him at all, you just want to rewrite it for your lying propaganda as a state pipe organ.

Short list of Carter’s achievements:

1. 14.6 percent inflation.

2. Eight percent unemployment.

3. Deep recession.

4. Gas rationing.

5. The failed Operation Eagle Claw to rescue the hostages held at the American embassy in Iran.

6. The seizure of that embassy by Iranian militants.

7. “A crisis of confidence … that strikes at the very heart and soul and spirit of our national will … [and] is threatening to destroy the social and the political fabric of America.”

I personally remember LONG gas lines, interest rates of 18-20% with no end in sight and having to turn the heat down to 65 degrees during the coldest winter in 100 years.

All I remember about Carter is inflation and high gas prices.....if he did anything positive I don’t remember it.

No there was nothing favorable about the Carter presidency. When we should have been enjoying high skrool and starting college, we were sitting in gas lines hoping to find a job so we could pay off our high interest car loan and seeing our country held hostage in Iran because Carter decided to take down the most westernized society in the whole region and replace it with a rogue moslem dictatorship.

“Bill you are a complete retard.”
Oh so true and has always been so
However having lived and tried to support a family through the Carter years, I have to say, it was not really that much worse than the Ford years.

Yes. The handling of Iran was a national disgrace from a national security perspective.

In an odd way, even at the cost of eight American lives and national embarrassment, Operation Eagle Claw propelled the US military (agains their will) into actually developing interservice communications, command structures, and capabilities.

It was a high price to pay, and it was only due to his incompetence, but...that was a silver lining.

[Carter] is still portrayed as in over his head, obsessed with petty details, mean-spirited, and out-of-touch with average Americans.

This screed is basically a hit piece on Trump in the midst of another attempt by the lefty press to shade the toxic effects of progressive policies by the likes of Carter.

Ironically, the author does accurately describe the defective leadership style Carter learned at the knee of his sea-daddy, Admiral Rickover.

I will give Carter a little benefit of the doubt, I think he was just naive more than anything.

Biden is just plain evil, and frankly he isn’t worthy to shine Jimmy Carter’s shoes.
