Russia launches rescue ship to save NASA astronaut, two cosmonauts after spacecraft leak

Russia has launched an unmanned rescue craft toward the International Space Station to rescue two cosmonauts and a NASA astronaut who are stranded aboard.

NASA astronaut Frank Rubio and Russian cosmonauts Sergey Prokopyev and Dmitri Petelin have been stuck on the station since December after a micrometeorite impacted the external radiator of their spacecraft and caused a leak, according to The Hill.

The Soyuz capsule launched from Kazakhstan filled with supplies for the three spacemen. It is expected to dock with the station on Sunday. NASA observers were present at the launch in a rare instance of Russo-American cooperation amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The three aboard the ISS will not depart aboard the Soyuz craft and remain aboard the station until another craft brings their replacements this September. The Russian spacecraft will return to Earth unmanned.

Pretty good for untrained conscripts with no ammo with broken 1970s tanks...

Oh wait...

The NASA astronaut should refuse the ride back otherwise he’ll be labeled a Putin lover.

I wish we were the ones taking on the space station program instead of relying on the International Space Station. For scientific as well as national security purposes.

That article contradicts itself. Says it's a rescue mission but then says the astronauts will say aboard.

Yes, how will the astronaut and cosmonauts return to earth? Are they going to try flying the leaky spacecraft? I remember how that worked for Soyuz 11, back in 1971.

We probably could. We know the Dragon capsules work well. Probably because the admin hates spacex/musk so much, they only allow the bare minimum tolerance for cooperation.

Its possible some of the cargo are things to either fix the leak with a spacewalk or system sealants, or extra containers of whatever’s leaking, in addition to food and other supplies. Never know. But its a manageable leak, they know the rate of it, and since they aren’t slated to return, its not serious enough to abandon the station. Right now.

(1)Lousy headline
(2)Faulty Soyuz will(or already has) try to return to earth unmanned, will probably burn up in atmosphere due to damage.
(3)Soyuz just launched probably configured as a supply ship only, not set up to bring anyone back to Earth.
(4)Guessing the guys stranded need to be replaced by 3 guys, thus the wait til September for the replacement crew

Thats my 2 cents :)

Well, that’s a misleading headline. But it’s hard to expect much better from copywriter’s these days.

More.

TCMDO is $92 Trillion.

We are at 358% of GDP.

When we reach 360%, it’s unmanaged economic collapse time.

It shows you honorable Russia and the Russian government is.

We did everything we could to make the war in Ukraine necessary for Russia. We funded savage neo-Nazis, squashed attempts at negotiated settlement for peace and sending arms to kill Russians but they are still willing to save one of our astronauts.

Russia is much closer to be the shining city on the hill than we are under the Biden regime.
