Angela Davis was shocked to learn that her ancestors came to America on the Mayflower, making her descendants of people who helped found the country.
The civil rights activist learned about this news during the Feb. 21 episode of PBS’s Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr. Gates shows her a manifest of names, eventually revealing that the document had the names of the Mayflower passengers.

“No, I can’t believe this,” she said, laughing through her surprise. “My ancestors did not come here on the Mayflower.”
When asked how she felt about the news, Davis said, “…That’s a little bit too much to deal with right now.”

How is it documented?
Just my opinion: Davis should have been sent to the gas chamber 40 years ago.
Probably by mitochondrial DNA.
This could be a funny twist to the reparations movement. Most US blacks are more white than I am.
Notice it’s always the light-skinned blacks that are the most radical.

Her ancestors were the Brewsters. Thankfully, there are none in my tree. George Soule, my 9th great-grandfather came over on the Mayflower.

Ben Affleck was on "Finding Your Roots". When he earned he had three slave-owning ancestors, he demanded Gates withhold that information from the the show. When it was discovered that PBS had left that info out, they tried to use the excuse that "they'd found other people in his tree that made for a better narrative." Horse Hockey!
