The White House on Wednesday blamed Republican lawmakers and the Trump administration for lax railway and environmental regulations in the aftermath of a train derailment in East Palestine, Ohio, that spilled toxic chemicals.
Andrew Bates, a deputy White House press secretary, argued congressional Republicans and former Trump administration officials “owe East Palestine an apology for selling them out to rail industry lobbyists,” pointing to past efforts to loosen regulations.
“Congressional Republicans laid the groundwork for the Trump Administration to tear up requirements for more effective train brakes, and last year most House Republicans wanted to defund our ability to protect drinking water,” Bates said in a statement.
“There is only one way they can prove that they are finally disowning their long history of giveaways to rail industry management at the expense of communities like East Palestine: work across the aisle with us to put Obama-Biden protections back in place and go further, including with higher fines for rail pollution and properly equipping the EPA,” he added.

LOL LOL gotta love how commies love changing the subject when they obviously dont give a rats ass about what happened in East Palestine and its simple, because they voted for Trump, they are white, poor, Trump voters so the left hates their guts anyway
It’s a lie. The train in Ohio would not even have been part of the regulations they are referring to. Don’t fall for their lies.
Pure desperation
It IS true Trump loosened regulations, but they were hindrances to productive business regs, NOT the safety of logistics and operation.
THIS is one of those false bullets they’ll hammer during 2024.
Gee… what did that HUGE “infrastructure” bill they recently passed go for???
I seem to remember that THAT was gonna fix all our transportation…
Yeah… Trump’s fault tho…. lol
What BS. The railroad companies did this to themselves when they all decided they no longer wanted to pay a person to ride in a caboose and watch the train.
So what then, pray tell, has the ‘administration’ done to correct the deficiencies?
Since Pete Buttigieg commented on a thousand derailments a year, he must be all over this?
Some of these trains really zip by in these hick towns. Time to slow them down. And 150 cars??
The railroad retirement act is older than SSI. BRANDON, please get a life;-)
“..these idiots had two years to fix it.”
And three weeks to come up with this bogus piece of amateurish spin.
I have not yet seen news of the cause of the derailment(s) outside of the one axle overheating.
Andrew Bates must be some Obama left over trash blame something anything................
Transportation secretary was too bust on maternity leave, photo ops of fake biking to work (after his SUV dropped him and bike off a block from the office), and attack the problem of racist highways to get around to looking into it. First things first.
A real president would first focus on finding a resolution out of this toxic spill, not pointing a finger.
That’s as bogus as blaming modern car crashes on repeal of the 55-mph limit, rather than on texting-while-driving and other distractions...
America would be paradise if we could regulate leftists into near non existence.
I'm thinking about the speeds through these hick towns...I know waiting for a train to pass is annoying...but it's better than getting behind a dumb a** Amish buggy.
