A trove of newly-released text messages and emails have laid bare how the right-wing media giant operated with little regard for fact in the weeks and months following the 2020 presidential election. The correspondence reveals that the network’s senior-most executives and highest-profile hosts chose not to disclose what they believed to be the truth of the election out of fear that that the facts would alienate Fox News’ audience and throw the highly profitable business into ruin.
The messages were contained in a stunning legal filing made public on Thursday as part of Dominion Voting Systems’ $1.6 billion lawsuit against Fox News, showing the network’s executives and talk hosts privately trashing lies pushed by former President Donald Trump’s camp and his supporters asserting the 2020 election was rigged.
But, despite privately acknowledging the realiity of the situation, the network allowed the lies to take hold on its air, in large part because executives and hosts were terrified that telling its sizable audience the truth would prompt them to tune out.
After the election, an incensed Trump had attacked Fox News and encouraged his followers to switch to Newsmax, a smaller right-wing talk channel that was saturating its airwaves with election denialism.
Trump was enraged that Fox News was the first network to call the critical swing state of Arizona for now-president Joe Biden. And he couldn’t stand that the network, rightfully, declared Biden as the winner of the presidential contest.
In the days and weeks after the presidential contest had been called, Fox News’ audience listened to Trump and rebelled against the channel. Fox News shed a chunk of its audience while Newsmax gained significant viewership.

I give Fox News a break.....they are in a business first and foremost and there’s no business that’s perfect or will satisfy their clients 100% ....I prefer Fox Business though.
They don’t have to be terrified of me anymore
I’m no longer in their audience
This just in. News organizations are in the business of making money. Most are also in the business of making news rather than reporting news.
This “report” is way over the top, but Fox could become less establishment, more like Carlson, Ingraham, and the bald guy who has a show on the weekend, never invite the Condoleeza Rice, Bolton types on, and it would be a dramatic improvement,
I might have been persuaded to defend fox from biased attacks prior to 6 PM on election night 2020. But since then, I could care less about a liberal news network, that I have since blocked.
;^)
Agreed. I watch Making Money with Charles Payne. He is much more levelheaded than the talking heads on CNBC.
Scepticism from newsy anchors/opinionaters is healthy. Instead of allowing that scepticism to influence reportage it is reported on air so that we can decide. “We report, you decide.” Scepticism is real, but the truth remains unknown until examined.
Alphabet counterparts take their doubts, consider them facts, and then filter news based upon what they think they know.
Much of what Tucker is noted as saying privately is correct, or may have been at a particular time after one of DjT’s misguided attacks on an opponent, or the state of information known at that time. When & why did Carlson say this.
But on Fox Business I find they can deliver.
Fox has been having a party making fun of CNN’s blues, from Chris Cuomo to Toobin to Brian Stelter right up through Don Lemon. Quite amusing.
CNN must think it died and went to heaven when it can play pay-back for a little while.
Glass house occupant throwing stones.
That being said, I don’t watch FOX any more - haven’t for a couple of years now.
I will put my money on Maria Bartiromo, she is THE best. Informed, honest and does not bring liberal clowns on her show to spew their lies. Her Sunday, 10am spot is definitely worth the time.
YES, Fox Business - esp morning shows 6-noon
One mainstream media org, esp. CNN trying to gain the moral high ground on another is comical. It would take me 10 seconds to pull up 100 different links to lies CNN has told to it audience. The objective isnt to investigate and report, its to echo chamber eyes on your shows and sell ads.
At least Fox HAS an audience, compared to CNN.
It’s CNN. ‘Nuff said.
Tucker Carlson has always been an opportunist.
CNN accusing ANYONE, even Satan, of running a “dishonest organization” is such a hoot. Gee did they ask Brennan and Clapper to comment?
