Biden Pushes Universal Background Checks, ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban, Following MSU Attack

President Joe Biden released a statement Tuesday on the Michigan State University attack and he called for an “assault weapons” ban, a “high capacity” magazine ban, universal background checks, and myriad other gun controls.

The type of firearm used in the MSU attack has not yet been reported by police, nor has the means by which the attacker acquired said gun.

Biden noted the MSU attack occurred one day before the fifth anniversary of the Parkland high school shooting, saying, “The fact that this shooting took place the night before this country marks five years since the deadly shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, should cause every American to exclaim “enough” and demand that Congress take action.”

Well, let’s not quibble over the fact that this person had a record of prior firearms related offences (which means he would likely not pass a background check required for legal firearms acquisitions) or that a media report from the other day about the incident had the police not elaborating on the type of firearm used in the shooting.

In the previous incident, McRae was arrested in the summer of 2019 and charged with carrying a concealed weapon without a license, a felony punishable by up to five years in prison.

In October 2019, the Ingham County Prosecutor's Office dropped that felony charge after McRae pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of possession of a loaded firearm in a vehicle, which is punishable by up to two years in prison.

Carol Siemon [Ingham County Prosecutor] stepped down from the role [2022]. She had faced criticism from local police chiefs and sheriffs in August 2021 after implementing a new policy that dialed back most felony firearm charges.

"The new policy concerning Felony Firearm charging is related to dramatic racial inequity in how this and certain other laws have been charged and is not in any way linked to the goal that we share of keeping the public safe," Siemon said in a statement at the time. "The purported link between this policy and any future rise in gun violence is disingenuous and erroneous."

The shooter should have been doing a five year stretch on a felony gun charge, but the Soros backed DA dropped the felony. He got a misdemeanor and one year probation. Gun laws… who needs ‘em?
