You are right. they have always been thuggish and brutal. But, then again a lot of countries were like that back then. But, we have all changed. Russia is one-of the few that is still stuck in that mindset.

As I noted in my post #34, Putin’s invasion of Ukraine is a war crime.
However, I take gentle exception to your comment there. Bush II’s invasion of Iraq was not that long ago. And it was just as much a crime as is Putin’s invasion of Ukraine.
Bush II put forward some flimsy reasons to justify his invasion. Most people bought those reasons, for awhile anyway. Putin is following along that same path. He gave weak reasons that his people accepted, for awhile anyway.

Spring Break is next month and traffic will be horrendous.
The bridge at Ft. Walton to the island is being replaced and will take about 4 years to complete, meanwhile traffic will be a total chaos all year around, regardless of whether tourists are here or not. They have already torn down several buildings, including a hotel for the new bridge stantions, which will be higher, longer and wider than the present bridge.
THEN the bridge at Destin to the island will be replaced and the fun begins all over again!....................
Whether it was right or not. We acted there in good faith. Saddam was a bad guy who was not living up to the agreement and we wanted to make the world safer which we did. The old 2nd world that has not joined the first world and the arab Islamic lands are the last bastions of aggressive military adventures and we made the old Arab world a little bit calmer. Sometimes you just have to remove the bad guys.

Participating and assisting in the murder of tens of thousands of Bosnian Muslims and the ethnic cleansing of Bosnians and Croats might have had something to do with that.
