Another geologic point that needs to be thought about is if you live next to historically pyroclastic volcano, there are Lanes which the pyroclastic clouds have taken in the past and geologists know these zones and have mapped them out. The problem is they built entire cities in these valleys which geologically have been funnels for superheated pyroclastic clouds of mayhem and destruction.
For example, Pompei was destroyed by the pyroclastic volcano Vesuvius. Montserrat too was devastated by pyroclastic eruptions. Mount St. Helens, Pinatubo etc...
Earth is a dynamic planet. Study up on extinction events. I actually find it humorous when experts, scientific experts are asked about what mankind can hope to achieve in the next “million years.” The answers are laughable, given the planets propensity towards “do-overs.” Not to mention cosmological collisions, or solar blasts directed towards the solar system we inhabit.
The stuff that nightmares are made of. Hopefully, a lot of people chose to shelter outdoors following the first big quake.

The worst part about the first earthquake: it happened at 4:17 am local time. As such, most of the population were asleep inside their homes. Given the massive number of buildings flattened by the first earthquake, I could see the death toll reach 20,000 or higher. 🙁

The large aftershock is a major problem, especially for places with shoddy construction. I feel bad for the people. Awful situation.

While I don’t like Turkey’s government one bit, I hope that the deaths among the ordinary people of Turkey from these horrible quakes can be reduced as much as possible, that those missing are found quickly, and that those injured are healed as quickly as possible. Human misery is human misery, wherever a person is located, and it is never a good thing.
Israel has sent 4 rescue teams with specially-trained dogs to Turkey to try and save people. Turkey will still support Hamas scumbags in Gaza.

Just yesterday I came across a video on Youtube about the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that destroyed Fukushima and the surrounding areas. It was done by NHK based on footage collected from people during the event: “3/11 - The Tsunami: The First 3 Days”
What was clearly apparent was the way the Japanese reacted post-event, versus the way people react in the U.S. urban areas whenever there is a problem. The differences are staggering.
I’m not going to miss any of the victims. These are the same people that keep Erdogan in power.
