Because “independent” usually means moderate. Which means they don’t believe in anything until both sides make their claims...then they try to split the baby.
Don’t worry, democrats make sure there are plenty of votes cast to make up for anyone who doesn’t get around to voting for themselves.
Those are the people that are most exploited for ballot harvesting, often without their knowledge.
In the Sovi t Union and similar communist countries they get very high turnout and almost unanimous support for a single candidate. People can get in trouble for not voting for the party candidate. In some jurusdictions, some folks don’t vote because they have noone to vote for. All D Anti-American, Anti Freedom, Anti-2nd Amndmnt Baby Killers on the ballott, what would you do?
Some don’t vote because they simply don’t give a shiite. They’ve gone Gault and don’t participate in The System anymore.

They don’t care, and they don’t show up to vote (much lower participation rate than registered Democrats or Republicans).
When they do finally care, it will be too late.
The premise of the article is flawed.
Democracy crack in America is not in the government. It is in the marketplace. Need body should accept the he faulty premise that we have democracy in the government.
