Harley-Davidson is planning to phase out motorcycles powered by its storied internal combustion engines, and will slowly but surely transform into an all-electric brand. Harley CEO Jochen Zeitz tells Dezeen that after 120 years of being famous for its big gas-powered models, electrification is the logical next step. That is, if the company plans on sticking around for another 120 years.
Harley-Davidson’s EV transition “needs to happen,” according to its CEO, and not just on a small scale with a brand like LiveWire. No, we’re talking H-D dealers selling EVs exclusively, although it isn’t going to happen overnight.

Safety reasons?”
1. I am 76.
2. It makes my wife happy
3. Too much congestion in my area.
I sold my most recent HD three years ago. My brother who is an LEO convinced me that the downside was not worth the upside - he’s seen a lot of gory accidents.
So sad to see them Go Under.
Understood. 🖖
300 miles city, 200 miles highway
...so when will Harley introduce their new rainbow-striped ‘Pride Edition’ cycles? LOL at queers...
Well given they are talking 2 - 3 decades in the future, I wouldn’t worry about it. By then, the recharging and range issues will be dealt with or the entire concept will be dead.
I’d say, honestly, electric motorcycles have more realistic shot at the marketplace than cars.
Most motorcycle riders do not use their bikes as full time vehicles. Majority are commuter vehicles on days when the the weather is nice, or to putter around on a weekend close to home, rarely ever putting more than 100 miles in a single usage if that.
A good majority of motorcycles sold, I’d bet have never been driven more than 100 miles in 1 sitting.
Go look at used bike listings right now, and you will find no shortage of low mileage late model vehicles for sale, and other than some particular brands, for sale cheap.
That’s a huge part of the market.
Then there are the folks who are more dedicated, and ride cross country on their bikes in all sorts of weather.. but they are the overwhelming minority of folks who own a motorcycle.
Harley is going out of business? Thank you German CEO who apparently understands zero about the brand
I smell a WEF rat.
They need a new CEO this guy is a nut job and probably doesn’t ride a motorcycle. Just guessing.
Kinda like when the CEO of Playboy, Hugh’s daughter, decided that Playboy wouldn’t use pictures of gorgeous nekkid ladies anymore. hahaha
Mine is a 1998 dresser with over 390k miles. Doesn’t leak a drop of oil.the day’s of leaking chains went out years ago
Not a myth.
Personal experience.
Reminds me of a joke I once read.
A widow calls into a local paper to place an obituary.
The widow says she wants it to say
“John smith has died his wife and children will miss him”.
The newspaper man says “Is that it? obituaries are free so you can say more”.
She says okay.
Write “bass boat and motorcycle for sale cheap”.
The CEO gave a long timeframe. IMHO he’s giving the wamrageddon cult Dims enough lip service to stay off of Harley’s back, but not really committing to going all in on EV.
390K miles? Iron-Butt award winner right here!
Jochen will soon join a certain Dallas Cowboys kicker in the unemployment line.
Hey, Ding Dongs, I believe the Hell’s Angels and other MC’s know how to repair their own bikes. Good luck selling . . . well . . . anything, after your transition.
You’re only a bad person if you don’t also roll coal.
