America on the brink: Our Constitution distorted, agencies corrupted, fiscal sanity lost and Congress in ruins. After THAT floor mayhem, a devastating analysis by REP BOB LIVINGSTON - and a powerful solution (if the GOP wants it)

Congress is broken.

The vision of James Madison enshrined in the U.S. Constitution, the most important document in the world second only to the Bible, has been blurred, distorted, and almost forgotten.

Partisanship has eclipsed any thought of working together in the interest of the nation. Party loyalty is sacrosanct and any deviation in either Party is frowned upon and sanctioned.

Gone are the days when members of Congress could reach across the aisle to produce legislation founded on common sense rather than sheer Party dogma.

'Negotiation' does not equate with 'capitulation.' But insistence on 'my way or the highway' often yields what we have seen too often in recent years: nothing … or much worse.

It's difficult to determine exactly where the problems began.

Democrats became arrogant in their 40 years of virtual control of the House of Representatives and almost equal domination of the U.S. Senate.

They suffered a cataclysmic fit when in 1995, Newt Gingrich led Republicans to seize control of the House. Their outrage compelled them to file over 200 frivolous ethics complaints against the new Speaker, yet Republicans were successful in restraining President Clinton's profligate agenda leading him to declare, 'The era of big government is over.'

The nation benefited as the Republican Congress worked with the Democrat controlled White House to restrain spending and ultimately balance the discretionary budget for the first time in decades and for the last time in modern history.

Just take party affiliation off every ballot in this country. People are free to associate with any party they want. But there is no reason their affiliation has to be listed on the ballots. Why not list their social club membership or country club memberships or house of worship?

Political parties are what has ruined Congress. They can exist, but should not be allowed to matter any more than whether you are a Kiwanis or Moose Lodge member.

I don’t care about the party affiliation. Strict term limits, insider trading illegal and NO PENSION!

Wow...you mean voters might actually have to see what the person running for office really stands for or what their current office holder has actually done on their and the nations behalf...what a radical idea!

I’d vote for the guy that belongs to the Moose...they have great Saturday night dinners and live music around here...:)

Load of Bull.

Congress has begin to fix itself.

Now next in 2024 we need a huge newly elected slate of MAGA Congressmen and women.

There is nothing wrong with the animated contest of freedom. Its messy, unpredictable and pisses authoritarians right off, but allows for the hand of Divine Providence.

Imagine what Samuel Adams would tell Bob Livingston, likely looking at him down the blast tube of a black powder pistol.

The Donkey Party is the genesis of all of this

Pubbies never had anything like their criminal minds.

To act as if this a bipartisan crime scene is preposterous.

He was worthless. When he was picked to succeed Newt, he had to step down when his extra-marital affairs became public.

Wasn’t the Uni-Party created by reaching across the isle? Seems to me the political divide the author talks about is just theater.

Better yet, just put “Uniparty” as their party affiliation.

Livingston may have been better than Hastert as Speaker, but we’ll never know.

So now that Republicans control the House, it’s time to reach across the isle again. We’ve heard this before.

If the House controls the FEC, have the Speaker replace the board tomorrow to favor patriots. Then present them with a demand to de-certify the DNC for being the terrorist organization behind Jan 6, and for credentialing candidates for POTUS and Vpotus (Obama and Harris) as unqualified born citizens when natural born citizens are specified.

Would this not turn all the (D)s to (I)s?

"We’ve heard this before."

Agreed.

When bipartisanship happens, Freedom and taxpayers always suffer.

Wow. He’s still living. He was going to be Speaker until he was outed for having extra marital affairs. Which led to Hastert who molested young boys when he was a HS teacher. And those are the Republicans. Congress is a depraved group of perverts.
