UPDATE posted around 12:36 am EST:

Kevin McCarthy won the House speakership during the 15th round of voting this week which began late Friday night and spilled over into Saturday after the clock struck midnight. He earned 216 votes.

Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, and Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 14 rounds, each voted present in the 15th round, which lowered the threshold McCarthy needed to secure victory — Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had switched to present in the 14th vote, voted present again for the 15th round.

Original story below:

For the 14th time this week, Kevin McCarthy has come up short in his quest to clinch the House speakership.

He came closer than he had all week by earning 216 votes — he would have locked up a win if he had been able to reach 217.

Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Matt Gaetz of Florida, who had previously voted against McCarthy in the first 13 rounds, voted present during the 14th vote.

Andy Biggs of Arizona, Eli Crane of Arizona, Bob Good of Virginia, Matt Rosendale of Montana, who had all voted against McCarthy on the first 13 rounds, voted against him again in the 14th round.

A group of more than a dozen Republicans voted against McCarthy in 11 votes this week, including three votes on Tuesday, three on Wednesday, and five on Thursday. Nineteen Republicans opposed McCarthy in the first two votes, but that number increased to 20 when Byron Donalds of Florida, who had voted for McCarthy twice, switched and voted against McCarthy on the third vote.

Don’t say I did not warn y’all , but this snake is going to turn around and backstab all those who voted against him. He’s gonna come out with a vengeance against them for making him look like a fool. Sorry folks but it’s a very sad state of affairs to have this snake re-elected as majority speaker. A POS who hates the base. America is done.

The obnoxious part of the partisan media response is, how ‘messy’ or ‘chaotic’ it is — they want a return to the agenda-driven no-dissent single party state, rather than actual democracy.

Trump’s a multi-billionaire because of great business success, business sense, and loyalty to good performers.

Elements of that kind of success don’t die easily.

Trump is used to firing substandard performers in business. I know it has come as a surprise to him that he often can’t do that in government. As good as he is with people, he has to be EXTEMELY predictive about somebody’s ability to perform well and be loyal to him BEFORE he hires them.

Often, he has no choice about what is forced on him because that’s how government works.

"Lost by removing Pelosi?"

Pelosi was gone when we won the slim majority which McCarthy thinks he played a roll in. Come back in a year or two, and tell me we've won.

They had to pay for it, too. Committee seats and rules are powerful tools.

Oh please. McCarthy is just as bad as the Dems. He’d auction off his own grandmother to pass big govt legislation, if he thought it would benefit himself.

Is it possible that the drama was kabuki theater to suck up the oxygen from Jao Bi Ding’s Anti-Republican Holiday celebration yesterday? If that’s what the GOP was really doing, then good on them. Excellent strategic thinking.

I get it. You’re an AI entity programmed to sow discord and chaos by creating falsehoods. Have fun with that.

The Speaker of The House is already decided. No “series” for you. And we are already well into January.

The threat of Trump's Speakership almost certainly pushed him over the victory line.

Nope.

The 20 got us some great concessions but can they hold McCarthy’s feet to the fire using the new rules? I do not trust him.

President Trump is not in the White House and McCarthy has been leader of Republicans in the House for 4 years already.

There was no “caving t the far right”.
And the voting did not take a week, just a few days.
What more fairy tales you got?
