Trump’s endorsement proves worthless to Kevin McCarthy in his speaker bid
NBC News ^ | 01/04/2023 | Jonathan Allen

Posted on 01/04/2023 11:47:56 PM PST by thegagline

Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., doesn't care that former President Donald Trump backs Kevin McCarthy for speaker of the House.

"Endorsements don't matter to me," said Norman, one of 20 Republican holdouts who have blocked McCarthy, R-Calif., from winning the majority he needs on a series of deadlocked votes for House speaker. "This is our fight here."

Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., another anti-McCarthy voter, took umbrage at Trump calling recalcitrants on behalf of the beleaguered House GOP leader.

"Let’s stop with the campaign smears and tactics to get people to turn against us — even having my favorite president call us and tell us we need to knock this off," Boebert said on the House floor Wednesday. "I think it actually needs to be reversed; the president needs to tell Kevin McCarthy that, sir, you do not have the votes, and it’s time to withdraw."

McCarthy has given no indication that he plans to do that. But it was clear Wednesday — from House floor votes and interviews with Republican members — that Trump had failed to swing votes to McCarthy through either his behind-the-scenes calls to lawmakers or his big public endorsement in a Wednesday morning post to the Truth Social media platform.

“Some really good conversations took place last night, and it’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House members to VOTE FOR KEVIN, CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY,” Trump wrote. “REPUBLICANS, DO NOT TURN A GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARRASSING DEFEAT.”

Didn’t McCarthy vote to impeach Trump? Why in the hell would Trump indorse this POS. He lies constantly and is looking for the position but not the job. The American people deserve better than another RINO running the House.

******

McCarthy never voted to impeach Trump in either impeachment farce.

What McPussy did is briefly stand with the Washington DC establishment about Jan 6 in opposition to Trump.(See Cheney throwing blame & F Bombs at Trump & Jordan)

After the ‘smoke cleared’ the scared cockroach politicians stopped scurrying around like pathetic cowards about the protest of the 2020 Big Steal.

McStupid decided to take a different position, he decided maybe Jan 6 wasn’t the hill to destroy his ambitious political future.

Shortly after the mentioned events, McJellyfish was kissing Orange Ass at Mar-a-Largo and wanting back in the MAGA Club.

People on Free Republic can hate McPussy all they want, but Trump has way more political leverage over him, than the International Senate ATM machine named Mitch McConnell.

Doesn't that tell you? He and McCarthy have made a deal. McCarthy will do certain things in return for Trump's endorsement.

Good.

Trump has had some lousy picks from the DC swamp. BUT When all you have to pick from is DC swamp critters, what can you do?

McCarthy is looking worse by the day, though.

When you have to tout one of his agenda item ‘concessions’ being ‘not spending money in safe seat elections’ that is not a high standard. It’s like promising you will only pee INSIDE the bowl.

And then he LIES about things, and says the holdout GOP members are doing it for personal gain? Not good...

They announced what they were holding out for. NONE OF IT was personal gain. All of it was common sense stuff THEY RAN ON AND PROMISED TO DO.

Knowing McCarthy couldn’t win Trump extracted some concessions he and Maga wanted for his Trump’s endorsement. McCarthy backed down as he usually does following his normal mantra of “any deal is a good deal”. Trump got what he wanted and McCarthy is still “SOL” :)

You are right .

Trump needs protection from the DOJ .

He could care less if McCarthy is a Silicon Valley Puppet and
a Huge Dem lite .
Kevin real job is to block all Tech laws and ram thru
Amnesty .
Kevin hates the Base .
Trump is just using us .
Trump Spend ZERO of the money he raised on anyone .
But push some real losers like OZ .

Trump needs to go away and retire and go peddle his super image Trading cards .

I am glad the CO congresswoman told Trump to stay out of it .
Trump is old news and not relevant anymore .

LOL. Trump is running and he will be the nominee. You will either stay home or vote for him. Trump has a great track record, choose wisely.

Which POTUS was as successful as Trump? Look at what Trump accomplished:

  1. Gas price per gallon was about $2.30;
  2. Inflation about 1.4%, mortgage rates were half of what they are now;
  3. Unemployment was low before Covid and before Blue Governors shut everything down and we were in the midst of a V-shape recovery until January 22, 2021;
  4. Tax decrease; tax laws promoted small businesses as well as large;
  5. US enjoyed energy independence - No Green Agenda, no war on energy, No Paris Treaty;
  6. No war in Ukraine, no threat of nuclear war, NATO paid its way;
  7. China was quiet and we were winning the trade war;
  8. US companies were bringing home the jobs due to well executed tax treatments;
  9. Peace in the Middle East aka Abraham Accords; US Embassy moved to Jerusalem; and Iran was isolated.
  10. Got three non-left “I don't know what a woman is” Supreme Court Justices on the bench allowing Roe vs Wade to be overturned.

Who the heck can accomplish the above in four years while being impeached twice and investigated by Obama's Weaponized Agencies?

This proves that the MAGA movement is much bigger than DJT.

Tell that to the new GOP Goldenboy of FLA aka Desantis who hasn't said the word "MAGA" in 4 years.

It’s not Trump. McCarthy is such a sleaze. Jesus himself could come down from Heaven, and McCarthy wouldn’t get the votes. He’s sold his soul to the rhinos, and I will have to sell his soul to the conservatives as well if he wants the job.

I still support Trump and think for the most part he was a great President. But his personnel choices as President as well as several endorsements were largely terrible, and he can’t ever resist the spotlight. There is absolutely no reason for him to be publicly involving himself in this vote. It doesn’t do anyone, especially him, any good.

I think you make a valid point. It does explain the almost unexplainable about Trump. He thinks he can make verbal deals with these people like in business. These people only think in political terms and backstabbing for position or money is who they are.

The GOP elites will never accept Trump ever because he is not one of them. They will always undermine him as they did before.

The same will happen with any newcomer who does not side with the elites.

The FBI is attacking Trump. I think there is a deal that the HOR is going to reign in the DOJ. Just a hunch. McCarthy may have convinced Trump he will do it. Not sure...

This is why this is all so unfortunate. He just doesn't learn despite repeating the same lessons over and over. There's a term for that.

That’s because instead of just saying MAGA, he’s doing MAGA. I mean, cmon, McCrappy would bleat MAGA, and not do it unless it suited his agenda. And then go back to MAGA again.
