Trump’s endorsement proves worthless to Kevin McCarthy in his speaker bid
NBC News ^ | 01/04/2023 | Jonathan Allen

Rep. Ralph Norman, R-S.C., doesn't care that former President Donald Trump backs Kevin McCarthy for speaker of the House.

"Endorsements don't matter to me," said Norman, one of 20 Republican holdouts who have blocked McCarthy, R-Calif., from winning the majority he needs on a series of deadlocked votes for House speaker. "This is our fight here."

Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo., another anti-McCarthy voter, took umbrage at Trump calling recalcitrants on behalf of the beleaguered House GOP leader.

"Let’s stop with the campaign smears and tactics to get people to turn against us — even having my favorite president call us and tell us we need to knock this off," Boebert said on the House floor Wednesday. "I think it actually needs to be reversed; the president needs to tell Kevin McCarthy that, sir, you do not have the votes, and it’s time to withdraw."

McCarthy has given no indication that he plans to do that. But it was clear Wednesday — from House floor votes and interviews with Republican members — that Trump had failed to swing votes to McCarthy through either his behind-the-scenes calls to lawmakers or his big public endorsement in a Wednesday morning post to the Truth Social media platform.

“Some really good conversations took place last night, and it’s now time for all of our GREAT Republican House members to VOTE FOR KEVIN, CLOSE THE DEAL, TAKE THE VICTORY,” Trump wrote. “REPUBLICANS, DO NOT TURN A GREAT TRIUMPH INTO A GIANT & EMBARRASSING DEFEAT.”

“Embrace the swamp.”

Congressman Ron DeSantis in the 114th Congress didn’t endorse but actually voted for John Boehner for Speaker.

After ‘Bonerhead’ resigned Mr DeSantis voted for Paul Ryan for Speaker.

In the 115th Congress the best politician in United States History once again voted for Paul Ryan as Speaker.(All this information is available at GovTrack.us)

What were saying about DeSantis embracing the swamp again?

Oh wait.......Now I get it.......you were taking a ‘snarky shot’ at the 45th President of the United States......Donald J Trump.

Seem very unusual that most conservatives don’t want that job.
Speaks volumes about how dysfunctional our government is.

Trump’s double down endorsement of McCarthy is just another episode of stupendously stupid HR decisions which were the hallmark of his time in office. Dr Oz is a similar offering, but it’s a really long list. Let’s add Operation Warp Speed and the ascension of Drs Fauci and Birx, as well as the lockdowns and the associated payments to everyone that began the inflation spiral.

I worked on his campaigns twice, voted for him twice, and donated way too much money to him over the years. I - and you - have been played. Bigly.

Wake the hell up. He is part of the show.

Prove me wrong.

The caucus isn't going to support a junior representative with no significant leadership or influence. Those who have such qualification have thus far stuck with McCarthy. It's a thin majority, making the job of herding the caucus very difficult. When you actually get something done in the house, the Dems still control the Senate and White House. I think most potential candidates see 2024 as a disaster in the making, and they don't want to be the goat.

**********

I see it differently.

It speaks volumes about how the United States Establishment gives every ideological faction their political heroes.
When the political hero doesn’t measure up, another champion emerges to slay the enemy, but basically the same policies are implemented regardless of political rhetoric or parties.

A good way to study United State History is to study every political campaign since George Washington.
The legislative history of the United States doesn’t lie, take a fork in the road, or a U turn.

What needs happen from the executive, legislative, and judiciary ‘just happens’ regardless of ideologues & partisanship.

“Prove me wrong.”

I don’t have to prove shit.

If the United States Establishment wants to stop screwing up our country, they’ll rig the 2024 elections for the 45th President.

If they want to lose money over the next 6 years, they’ll promote some loser & sucker that nobody cares about, except for the obscure fan club of whatever politician is the “flavor of the year.”(See DeSantis for an example)

Didn’t McCarthy vote to impeach Trump? Why in the hell would Trump indorse this POS. He lies constantly and is looking for the position but not the job. The American people deserve better than another RINO running the House.

Y’all must be a politician, it is all about money.
Ever heard of a congress critter that didn’t become a millionaire or better in office or due to their office?
America needs real statesmen today, not some car sales men that can sell a pile of Schiff to idiots.

Donald Trump cannot pull himself his style of business deal making. He continues to make verbal ‘deals’ and believes they have the same credibility they have in his part of the private sector. As a result political types lie to him and roll him constantly. In the private sector the word would be out and such a player would lose any credibility. In politics and entertainment it is just par for the course and Trump still doesn’t get it. It is depressing as hell but the man at his age cannot think outside his business box.

This proves that the MAGA movement is much bigger than DJT.

Wonder if he’s figured that out yet?

That is true but it a movement in name only. A big part of the problem is MAGA people hate the idea of a ‘movement’ and they continue to be positively worshipful of a lot petty conventional pious platitudes about the ‘goodness’ of American political culture. I cannot the MAGA people filling the streets and tearing a federal office building apart and fighting BLM or Antifa or cops with ball bats, machetes, lag ends and two by fours.

Trump endorsed Paul Ryan
Trump endorsed Mitt Romney
Trump endorsed Mitch McConnell
Trump endorsed Ronna McDaniel
Trump endorsed Kevin McCarthy

Now we are fighting Trump to have MAGA leadership because Trump is not MAGA anymore.

It doesn’t matter who endorses him. Axiom: When you groin-kick enough people, enough will remember you so you can view your own demise. He still might get the job. Will he do his duty to the citizens? He never has.
