It was just a matter of time before the January 6th committee did what it was always going to do. Namely, announce criminal referrals in relation to the unrest at the Capitol following the 2020 election.
On Tuesday, Chairman Bennie Thompson made it official, telling reporters that referrals were on the way and would be submitted as a separate document from the committee’s report.

Thompson didn’t announce exactly who the criminal referrals will target, but it’s not exactly a secret that Donald Trump is in the crosshairs. As the CNN article notes, the committee’s members have been in wide agreement that they feel the former president committed a crime. The lack of evidence to support such a contention hasn’t stopped them before and I see no reason to believe it’ll stop them now.
In short, Donald Trump is trouble, and that becomes clear when you take a step back and take a look at all the moving parts. Yes, the January 6th committee is a cog in all this, but it’s not the only one. The timing of the DOJ’s new special counsel targeting Trump isn’t a coincidence, and sure enough, on the same day Cheney and company announced criminal referrals were coming, here’s what the DOJ was working on.
BREAKING: DOJ special counsel subpoenas officials in several states, asking for communications with or involving former President Donald Trump, campaign aides and allies involved in his efforts to try to overturn the 2020 election.

A revival of New York State’s criminal case against Trump also happened in the last month. Again, none of these things are happening separately from one another. It’s all part of a slow-moving operation to take down the former president once and for all. The January 6th committee is mostly theater, but the DOJ is playing off that theater to build its case and turn public opinion.
There’s only one outcome here: Donald Trump is going to be indicted.
And while I’ve often said that would be stupid as a matter of law, at the end of the day, nothing I or anyone else has to say really matters. The DOJ is hellbent on finishing what it started way back in 2016, and no amount of calling them corrupt is going to change that.
That leads me to my last point. A lot of people on the right, myself included, have begun the debate on who should be the Republican nominee in 2024. The typical points of tension revolve around whether Donald Trump has what it takes to put together a winning coalition. But amidst the various factions yelling at each other about matchup hypotheticals, the elephant in the room is being ignored: Donald Trump is going to be indicted, and there is no chance a DC jury doesn’t convict him of whatever the DOJ puts in front of them.
The only question left in my mind is whether the government officials behind that drive are going to time things so that Trump is already the nominee when he’s indicted, essentially leaving Republicans without a candidate for the 2024 election. The trap is being baited, and that’s going to leave some tough decisions ahead for the GOP.
I’m pretty sure that earlier today Thompson was walking back comments about criminal referrals.
Hor End Us
The legislative branch has no criminal prosecutorial powers.
Let;s see if Jim Jordan subpoenas Thompson and orders him to produce all the Jan 6th Commission’s document on govt infiltrators, Ray Epps and friends, why the Capitol Police helped demonstrators into the Capitol Building, left their duty stations when a few dozen nuts tried to break down the doors, etc.
In fact t, Jordan and other House Committee leaders can subpoena the whole damned Jan. 6th committee, put them under oath, and squeeze their nuts for weeks or months.
You have entirely more faith in Jordan than I do.
But your scenario could work.
I’d like to see any/all emails pertaining to requests for security and if they were, in fact, denied by Pelosi.
And, of course, the video. All of the video.
RE: The legislative branch has no criminal prosecutorial powers.
That’s why they are announcing CRIMINAL REFERRALS. It’s because they know that the DOJ under Merrick Garland WILL prosecute.
Too bad Hitlery will never be indicted, because if there’s anyone who deserves to be indicted, it’s her along with her husband slick Willy.
Now all they have to do is drag it out in court for at least 2 years.
Unless SCOTUS rules in favor of Brunson.
Hooah.
When the FBI raided Mar-a-Lago, they didn't waste time digging through Melania"s underwear drawer. What could they find in the underwear? Besides getting a fetish thrill, they were looking for the Nuclear Code. Perhaps they fabricated the Nuclear Code on an under pant's item code. Trump will be indicted for unauthorized possession of the Nuclear Code.

Very sad to see, but unfortunately expected, even predicted by many as inevitable the way Trump and McCarthy played their hands.
Starts with Trump directing everyone to the Capitol, telling them he would meet them there, but never showing up. Oh I know, the story is the secret service wouldn’t drive him there, but with no chaperon at the party it quickly got out of hand. He should have realized he was being setup and been doing everything to shut it down virtually, instead of teasing other politicians on the phone when it was going down. Even his own kids including Don )r. were begging him to shut it down, which is documented, so don’t get mad at me for saying this.
Fast forward to the J6 committee being setup. Yes it was unfair how a couple of our rightful members were denied participation, but the decision by McCarthy to just boycott the whole thing completely, and let the train run off completely on it’s own, to its inevitable end, was idiotic beyond comprehension. Trump should have realized McCarthy wasn’t doing him any favors and asked to have his own team participate if McCarthy wouldn’t.
But the full green light given by Trump and McCarthy gave the Trump haters on the committee the right to say and do anything they wanted, completely unopposed. There’s no official dissent of any kind on the record. Historians will likely equate this to a “fold” or a plea of “no contest” when trying to draw an analogy. No Contest means you don’t mount any defense and throw yourself at the mercy of the court. Very risky and rarely results in not being charged with something. In this one sided committee it should have been obvious what the outcome would be.
Rather than spending his time and money to build up any sort of brilliant legal team to deal with these issues, Trump instead decided to hire several hot young female lawyers in Florida to run his Legal campaign on TV, which I’m sure everyone has noticed, and build Truth Social to run his PR campaign online.
He, just like many of his supporters, seem to be living in some sort if fantasy world where he’s Teflon Don, the untouchable one. Well maybe he has been, but with several obvious missteps along the way, and a lot of nasty people out to get him, that could unfortunately be coming to a sad end, which will affect us all. I hope and pray not, but he’s not in a strong position right now, as his sole reliance on self generated PR has been insufficient to counter those out to get him. Whether he’ll ever try anything different remains to be seen, but so far it appears his philosophy is once a promoter, always a promoter, and let the chips fall where they may.
“the committee’s members have been in wide agreement that they feel the former president committed a crime.”
They FEEL the former president committed a crime. That is not grounds for an indictment. The feels. If I FEEL those on the Jan. 6 committee are all corrupted, do they get indicted too?
(In reality, they’re lying. They really know Trump didn’t commit any crime.)
I think if he’s convicted he can’t run if he has a criminal record
Yes! It HAS to be that otherwise the people will have lost their right to elect a President.
What’s going on here is these domestic enemies are telling us “You can only have a President that WE approve of otherwise we will harass, investigate, and charge him with any crime we can dig up”
That’s not how it’s suppose to work. Who the hell do these a-holes think they are that oh- excuse me, they do not like the candidate we elected so therefore he must be destroed? This is not a 3rd world country, this is not a autocracy, this is OUR government by the people for the people, THEY work for us.
If Trump is finally destroyed and removed permanently from politics, then we will have lost the right to vote. From now on any candidate will have to be approved by the domestic enemies on our government who do not believe in the constitution or the right of the people to elect a President. We can pick DeSantis, but if DeSantis does not toe the line to the orders of these domestic enemies, he too will be destroyed.
Nuclear launch codes are changed daily.
Trump didn’t help himself by uttering something that could be interpreted as desiring the overturning of the Constitution.
All due respect, you’re not helping Trump by repeating this!
Laz you know when Trump says ANYTHING, it is immediately misinterpreted….always
