DC. has become a filthy, stinking toilet, full of corruption that desperately needs to be flushed.....

Run on that platform and you'll have 80% public support. (But you'll still lose a close contest in swing states via Cheat-By-Mail.

The maximum is based on the maximum that you can collect when taking out. If you up one, you should up the other.

Social Security is unsustainable even if they have not used it the way they have. Life expectancy has increased and previous generations just kept increasing the payout while not adjusting the amount coming in.

It is a Ponzi scheme and not fixing it now just means our children and our children’s children will bear the burden.

Social Security does have to be reformed. That does not mean current recipients payments would be “slashed”. That is the messaging the Dems are selling. But, simply put, it does not pay for itself. It is reasonable to amend the payout benefits and/or raise the FICA for those younger than, say, 50, most of whom don’t think it will there for them anyway unless it is reformed. They can then appropriately plan for retirement. We have to get the political messaging on this right if we are going to save it for the long term.

"...if we're going to get serious about making these
programs sustainable and getting this debt bomb at a
manageable level before it's too late..."

.

That would be Laughable - if it were not so tragic.

US National debt is now nearing $31 and a third TRILLION.

The 'debt bomb' is so far PAST it's 'too late point' - that words elude me.
That point is WAY over the horizon BEHIND us.

If the firehose of debt creation even slows down a little the world economy will sink like a stone - Actually IMPLODE violently.

So...

When will I be able to trade my Federal Reserve Notes in for 'World Financial Quatloos'?
Inquiring minds want to know...

.

So, Mr. Thune proposes to cut (i.e. steal) Social Security funds by the hundreds of billions to help enable the Uni-Party to pay out hundreds of billions (including crime, education, incarceration, un-employment, law enforcement, welfare costs) in support of desperately poor wetbacks by the millions being allowed to flood the country by RINO’s and Marxist Democrats.

I would rather Democrats than RINOs.

/\

Democrats pitch

Rinos catch

Rinos love to catch.

It’s disgusting.

The government forced us and our employers to pay into SS our entire working lives and the “conservative” is advocating cutting the already paltry benefits?

This is insane. The people that paid for it should get it and it shouldn’t be cut.

If they want to restructure SS for future generations, fine. But to cut SS from those who paid in their entire life before cutting anything and everything else is a bad, bad look and idea.

Raise the retirement age and that wil be the end of the Republican Party.

For me that's a win-win!

As bad as the Republicans are, the Communists are actually a lot worse.

(Last time I looked, SS doesn't actually need to be "slashed". It will get fixed, and the fix will be painless for most - but not all - people. The number of people who are scared by this rhetoric greatly exceed the number who might actually be affected. Why Republicans always insist on playing on political third rails baffles me.)

Social Security is not the problem, overspending Congress IS.

Cut Thune’s salary and perks and he would be crying like a baby.

How many $millions are those perks, John?

“The RINO establishment is actively engaged in sabotage. So they deliberately propose things they know will be hugely unpopular so as to help Democrats win elections.”

I actually can’t think of another reason for them to say that at this time. Further, they don’t need to slash social security. All they have to do is prevent Social Security and Welfare money for people who have had 5 years of welfare or government support and all illegals.

Wow......Look at that.....I just fixed the work force participation problem, the labor shortage problem, the federal deficit problem, the currency degradation problem, and likely the entire negative course of the nation.....because people will now be motivated to vote themselves JOBS instead of more money from the treasury.

If Walker were smart he would start running, immediately, against this and run far to the left on it. Daily attacking the Repukes in the Senate for trying to destroy people’s lives and that when he gets there he will put an end to this.

Of all the places to save money, Social Security is what you want to cut????

Social Security is one government program I approve of. Medicare is another.

Gut EVERYTHING else instead and then INCREASE Social Security. What a MAROON this guy is. I hate to admit I helped get him elected by donating to his campaigns in the past.

That has been said since I was in high school back in the 1990s, but I think it’s underestimated how much 50 million illegals are drawing from the pot. There won’t be any real numbers the public will ever see, but we know,I know for a fact, illegals are soaking it up and they are the ones not contributing to the pot!

I agree 100%, not to mention it's the right policy.

"There's a set of solutions there that we really need to take on if we're going to get serious about making these programs sustainable and getting this debt bomb at a manageable level before it's too late," Thune said.

It's already too late. All this grandstanding will do is create a huge backlash against the 2024 GOP nominee - which may be the whole point. The GOPe is going to throw the 2024 election to get rid of Trump/MAGA once and for all.

Seems that way, except slashing SS has been the desired goal of the Paul Ryan/Romney wing of the GOPe for years. Even the goof from Florida, Rick Scott, trotted it out there before the midterms.
