Top Senate Republican: Slash Social Security Or We'll Wreck US Economy
The National Memo ^ | 12/1/22 | Emily Singer

Posted on 12/01/2022 4:12:57 AM PST by JonPreston

Sen. John Thune of South Dakota, the number two Republican in the U.S. Senate, said on Tuesday that the GOP plans to use the debt ceiling as leverage to make cuts to Social Security and other social safety net programs.

"There's a set of solutions there that we really need to take on if we're going to get serious about making these programs sustainable and getting this debt bomb at a manageable level before it's too late," Thune said in an interview with Bloomberg News, adding that raising the retirement age is one of the solutions Republicans want to explore.

The title should be: Thune proposes method to save the economy.
_____________________

Saving the economy is “delaying the age to receive social security benefits” that they paid into their entire working lives??

How about a big fat NO! Number one, cut the benefits of the illegals and the lazy welfare recipients. The illegals and lazy seem to have more value than the actual hard working citizens. Of course they do, we no longer live in America.

Second, this is actually STEALING money from all the people who will most likely not make it the new delayed age. You see how this works?

While I am wondering about the reason, timing and “wisdom” of the distinguished RINO across the aisle Thune to say something about SS now, .... unless my coffee did not kick in ... I read the entire article - there was no quote by Thune where he said “cutting” SS.

The reality for all my retired FRiends who are receiving SS, and those of us are within striking age to sign up for SS, ..., the current SS path is unsustainable. The baby boom continued retirements and excessive inflation causing automatic COLA to one’s SS benefit has brought the day for SS insolvency a lot closer in time. There are two basic options usually talked about - modify SS benefits (which could include cuts) and raise SS taxes on workers.

It seems SS started to really move towards insolvency when excessive SS wage receipts were commingled with general revenues which allowed a huge feral givernment non-SS expansion in non-SS. FDR got skewered by GOP and his own party for proposing a SS trust fund to meet future obligations. The system was run as close to pay-go as possible to keep the wage tax low. IOW - making SS receipts part of the revenue stream for non-SS out of control feral givernment “programs” is a very significant factor to driving SS insolvency.

OK Thune - I am in. Only immediate change to SS - SS receipts only for SS program. Then you can work on the debt ceiling for all of the other out of control givernment spending. No SS beneficiary would be affected as receipts can fund continuing obligations. But Congress is addicted to SS wage income and will never give it up, NEVER, and people read headlines that don’t match the article and panic like spooked cows in the pasture. Let me get out of the way.

I would agree with Thune IFF he said they were going to means test SS. Like 100% tax on income from SS for earnings over $200,000. Or not allow people to collect SS if they are working. AND NO SS disability for illegals ... a BIG problem.

i went to the SS office in Manassas, VA to discuss retirement. The line was about 50 deep, 90% were Latinos in their 20s and 30s. I asked two guys in front of me where they were from. Both were from Guatemala. A third guy, about 25 in good physical condition, told me to “F** off!”

Except a lot of blue collar workers need to retire at 65.

It's been 34 years already now. Also, grew up in Asia and have seen things about which Americans would have no clue. Almost NO ONE listens or heeds the warnings. All that is left now are the consequences and they are going to be horrible. I'm fed up.

This is a perfect time for Trump to callout the Establishment Republicans on this issue. That would draw a clear line between MAGA & the Establishment.

Dear John: You’ve already wrecked the US economy, the only thing left to do is shut down Social Security. Get busy.

The money has already been stolen.

Social Security has always been a Ponzi scheme based on a series of lies.

What will likely happen is SS will be paid in inflated dollars, so the "cuts" will be in loss of purchasing power.

For him to even have a punchers chance he has to get on Twitter immediately, put together a future cabinet of MAGA patriots and outline a Peace and Prosperity agenda that is 180 degrees opposite of Thune and Establishment Washington.

DC. has become a filthy, stinking toilet, full of corruption that desperately needs to be flushed.....

To a point it is.

But once folks in places like SC and SDak stop falling for “elected Graham/Thune otherwise the Dem will win” not even a slight chance things will change.

But voters overwhelmingly supported both in the primaries. You get what you get.

Next time, if there is a next time, write in a neighbor. Don’t give the RNC, UNIPARTY, GOPe a single vote until someone legit steps up.

First, the worthless United Nations has got to go. Send all the third world trash running that RATS’ nest home where they belong. The UN is an old cold war dinosaur that is now obsolete. It’s gotta go. America can’t afford supporting the useless whinyass hag like an old ex-wife.

“Social Security was a Ponzi scheme from the very start. Like all others it,too, will end badly.”
Covid saved Social Security and Medicare. The US life expectancy went down by 2.5 years. That’s the same as raising the retirement age by 2.5 years in terms of Spending on SS and Medicare. Each senior who is really old, like 80, could use up $100k per year. 1 million died of covid. That’s $100 billion a year saved. Brutal but true. Live for today.
