Sen. John Thune of South Dakota, the number two Republican in the U.S. Senate, said on Tuesday that the GOP plans to use the debt ceiling as leverage to make cuts to Social Security and other social safety net programs.
"There's a set of solutions there that we really need to take on if we're going to get serious about making these programs sustainable and getting this debt bomb at a manageable level before it's too late," Thune said in an interview with Bloomberg News, adding that raising the retirement age is one of the solutions Republicans want to explore.

“i went to the SS office in Manassas, VA to discuss retirement. The line was about 50 deep, 90% were Latinos in their 20s and 30s. I asked two guys in front of me where they were from. Both were from Guatemala. A third guy, about 25 in good physical condition, told me to “F** off!”
I went to my local SS office in Illinois to get my SS started. There were two young Hispanic ladies with children in the line in front of me. A lady who was directing the customers to the proper offices asked them what they were there for. They said “disability”.
Hope they get video...I would run that on a loop on my desktop until the day I die.

Right after we do all of that, I will be the first one in line to say we need to adjust the way Social Security works.
Then again, I’m not a Republican like Thune and McConnell and Graham so what do I know?
Slash SS! Will the f’n pubbies ever learn. WE send billions to foreign countries every year. We support every liberal cause in the world, we are the main support of Nato and the UN, but we can’t support those on Social Security, who worked all their lives for a mere pittance, compared to what the millionaire bureaucrat politicians pull in for themselves. Thune and the rest of the SS slashers can go to hell!
Notice that they never suggest that Medicaid be cut.
RAISE the retirement age to 70, stop paying SS to multi-millionaire retirees going forward, gradually replace SS retirement with 401 type programs, keep Medicare benefits for everyone who pays into system.

That is the exact reason the SS train is going over the cliff. It was a program to provide a safety net, not a pension or IRA or unemployment or resettlement awards. The joke is they want to means test it for the very workers who paid for it while sending cash to leeches who paid zip and are not even citizens.
First order of business: kick anyone who is not fullly vested off the gov teat. I am tired of welcoming bums here. There were no such handouts when my predecessors got here and we all did ok through work and earning citizenship.
First make a list of your marxist, deranged, and depraved priorities that will continue to be fully funded by the taxpayers (sheep) instead of honoring lifelong promises to our senior citizens. Feels like Caligula-World.
Ponzi schemes are entered into voluntarily. With SS they just take it from you.
Unbelievable… unlimited money for Ukraine, global warming, anything homo, you name it. But social security needs drastic cuts.
What they want to do is destroy the upper half of the middle class. They will phase out SS and/or increase taxes on SS and Medicare those with pensions and savings. They want to keep anyone from progressing into the upper class. It is just the alternative way of destroying initiative and implementing socialism.
They can go ahead and cut my social security just as long as those Uke bureaucrats are getting their full pay and benefits.
