Top Senate Republican: Slash Social Security Or We'll Wreck US Economy
The National Memo ^ | 12/1/22 | Emily Singer

Posted on 12/01/2022 4:12:57 AM PST by JonPreston

Sen. John Thune of South Dakota, the number two Republican in the U.S. Senate, said on Tuesday that the GOP plans to use the debt ceiling as leverage to make cuts to Social Security and other social safety net programs.

"There's a set of solutions there that we really need to take on if we're going to get serious about making these programs sustainable and getting this debt bomb at a manageable level before it's too late," Thune said in an interview with Bloomberg News, adding that raising the retirement age is one of the solutions Republicans want to explore.

I hope this idea gets legs, just like Lindsey Graham's pre-midterm abortion ban bill. It's never the wrong time to attack the middle class, and it sure will hurt Hershel Walker in Georgia. He's a Trumper anyway, and would be misplaced in the Senate. It's best they go with the D, even tho he's a socialist.

That’s exactly what’s going on here.

The RINO establishment is actively engaged in sabotage. So they deliberately propose things they know will be hugely unpopular so as to help Democrats win elections. They would rather Democrats than MAGA candidates.

I would rather Democrats than RINOs. The RINO Establishment is enemy #1. They must be defeated at all costs. Only then can we take on the Democrats.

The same guy who keeps voting to give tens of billions to Ukraine and voted for Biden’s trillion dollar infrastructure bill.

Pfffft...

<>"They would rather Democrats than MAGA candidates."<>

What they wish to avoid is leadership which brings accountability.

They wish to be the "Loyal Opposition" so they can kibitz rather than work.

The election in Georgia has most likely already been called for Warnock. ‘Officials’ just have to go through the motions just to make it look good (ala Maricopa). Time to replace the stars with bananas....

“A truth that’s told with bad intent to, Beats all the lies you can invent.”

William Blake

The letter after the name means jack anymore.

The only reason political parties still exist is to give voters the illusion of choice.

A pol is either loyal to our former republic or to Deep State.

These guys are Deep State.

Billions upon billions in aid to Ukraine is sustainable though…

Stop giving so much money to illegals and Ukraine and we’ll have plenty of funding for SS. You know how many times a year I get U.S. Treasury checks in my mail box addressed to my illegal alien Mexican neighbors?!?

And they never, ever mention the millions of illegal aliens pouring in.

We can’t win if our leaders are all on the same side... and against us.

There were three elections the DEMs were *not* going to lose. PA Senate. AZ Governor. GA Senate.

The trifecta is almost complete.

Unfortunately, we won’t be able to get rid of them. The system is rigged.

I'm proud that I'm not a member of either the stupid-evil party, or the evil-stupid party.

(Only fix I see would be if an asteroid would hit DC on a day that Congress is in session.)

I know little to nothing about The National Memo, but a quick web search leads to the question:
What did Thune really say?

The same story is in a variety of other publications, if you care to poke around.

How about we get out of Nato, shutdown the European miltary bases, cut all useless spending (like NPR), and then we can discuss entitlements.

Thune is an example of someone who should be a DEMOCRAT.

He is the Christian version of Arlen Spector.
