Musk said that he'd make an 'alternative phone' if there's 'no other choic
Twitter Chief Elon Musk says he'd consider making an "alternative phone" in the event that Twitter is removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play.
Musk made the comments on Friday night in response to conservative commentator Liz Wheeler, who tweeted, "If Apple & Google boot Twitter from their app stores, @elonmusk should produce his own smartphone. Half the country would happily ditch the biased, snooping iPhone & Android. The man builds rockets to Mars, a silly little smartphone should be easy, right?"
"I certainly hope it does not come to that," Musk replied, "but, yes, if there is no other choice, I will make an alternative phone."
Musk's comments come after Phil Schiller, an Apple fellow who's responsible for leading the App Store, deleted his Twitter account.
Yoel Roth, former head of trust and safety at Twitter, said in a New York Times op-ed that the social media giant risks being expelled from Apple and Google's app stores if they fail to adhere to guidelines.
"Failure to adhere to Apple’s and Google’s guidelines would be catastrophic, risking Twitter’s expulsion from their app stores and making it more difficult for billions of potential users to get Twitter’s services. This gives Apple and Google enormous power to shape the decisions Twitter makes," Roth said.

Fine by me. Android is garbage. My Windows phones just worked.
“Trust Musk”.
I’ll get one.
he could do it with ease.
think raspberry pi w/ a screen and whatever necessary to communicate with his starlink network in low earth orbit (30ms from anywhere on the planet)
now you have an internet device that can also do voip.
if i were him, that’d be my next move... to take over the cell phone market as he takes over the ISP market.
he already has a smart phone dubbed the pi phone slated for release in late december
my understanding is that musk already has a smart phone dubbed the pi phone slated for release in late december

“I really wish we could get more Linux phones around here.
Why are we waiting on Musk though? Shouldn’t we do it ourselves?”
Well we can, but currently the concept is limited. It takes pretty good tech skills to root a device and install Linux without bricking it. Then here are only certain makes and models that this can be done with because hardware support has to be incorporated. Then the apps would have to be built for mobile device Linux specifically. Then websites would have to be built to recognize, allow access, and to serve up Linux mobile themes and templates because these are mobile OS specific.
Musk is going to have all these same challenges. It is not as simple as just creating your own OS for mobile devices. He will also have provide the apps and to expect the whole industry from user up to add and incorporate his new protocol.
If Elon makes a phone, I’d be in line to buy it...
Maybe even make it in the USA..
Uh no. This is probably about the rumored Tesla phone.
Blackberry was great, would love to see someone create it and have it called ‘Blueberry’
Can’t download an iPhone phone app outside the Apple App Store without “jail breaking” the iPhone which puts it at risk. It’s a benefit not a feature.
Thanks. Did not know that.
I wasn’t even thinking bootloaders and rooting. I bought mine several years ago ready for use so I could skip all of that, and even then, nobody wanted to get off of Woke Apple or Woke Android.
And they still don’t want to. Even when it’s just a simple purchase, the motivation is not actually there to divest from woke.
It is true that the programmers making these phones have a long way to go before installing on a phone is as mind numbingly easy as it is to install Linux on a computer. But even with THAT amount of ease though, we still can’t get people off of the woke platforms.
Maybe Elon Musk starpower is what it would require.
I got my fingers crossed. Anything better than what we got now. :)
