PALO ALTO, U.S. -- Twitter's new owner Elon Musk has reportedly said the social media platform should look to replicate its success in Japan and consider basing engineering teams in India and Indonesia as well.
"It may seem as though Twitter is U.S.-centric, but if anything it's Japan-centric," Musk said during a company meeting Monday, online tech magazine The Verge reported.
"There are roughly the same number of daily active users in Japan as there are in the U.S., despite the fact that Japan has one-third of the population of the U.S.," the Tesla chief and SpaceX founder was quoted as saying.
Musk said Twitter should aspire to replicate Japan's high usage rate "ideally in every country without exception," The Verge reported.
Musk suggested during the meeting that Twitter decentralize operations by establishing engineering teams in Japan, India, Indonesia and Brazil, which are markets where Twitter enjoys wide use.
The Verge cited people who attended the all-hands meeting and referred to a partial recording of the gathering.
The U.S. is home to the most Twitter users at 76.9 million as of January 2022, German data aggregator Statista reports. Japan came in second at 58.95 million users, followed by India, Brazil and Indonesia.

Customer service....... what a good idea
How many Russian bots?
It’s amusing to think that Twitter is such a big deal in Japan, and yet Twitter’s main focus for about 6 years has been to make sure that no one votes for Donald Trump. I hope Japan heeded that message.
Most liberals don't get the joke normally used in a large mall/store to go to a courtesy phone.
"Ligma" & "Johnson" weren't fired because they had never been employees at Twitter, but they staged themselves, walking around the building with banker's boxes of office items, when layoffs were given. All the fake news fell for their troll and their photos went national.
They are still used by the left, claiming Musk had fired them prematurely.
....such a big deal in Japan...
Japan is not the USA. Japanese, by and large, live in cramped apartments. Home ownership is a luxury, as is even owning a car. Going out is expensive. Don’t let the crowded roads and streets fool you. A dumpy parking space in Tokyo costs more than an apartment in LA.
No yardwork, no room in the apartment of a space-eating hobby. Net-surfing is cheap compared to other distractions.
Having engineering teams in other countries would also help break the back of the woke California culture that has been in charge at Twitter. In fact, they should move out of California altogether and replace any remaining Wokesters on the payroll.
How many Ukebots?
I think they’re all Chinese and North Korean, Bots
True dat.
I think I’ll send in my resume to help Muskify Japan management.
If you live in a far flung suburb, or in a semi-rural area, then you may be able to find a parking spot for as little as US$71.82 * per month. However, if you’re in central Tokyo, then the prices typically range from US$179.54 * to US$430.90 *. Contracts typically run for 12 months with a minimum contract period of 6 months. To quit your contract, you need to give notice more than one month in advance.

No doubt they employ their fair share but I doubt they are alone in this. I wouldn't even rule out that EUTrash do this sort of thing.
My experience, having lived in Tokyo for 10 years, was that the price of a parking space is quite a bit more than those listed on your supplied site. Location may have been a factor. Also, the key money and permits can add a quite a bit to the costs, on a monthly basis.
If you want a parking space near your apartment and your apartment is withing a 1/2 mile of a train station, expect to pay more towards $1,100 a month before permits and maintenance fees.
Key money refers to the gift of 1 month’s rent given to the real estate agent who brokered the contract.
Nice info… tanks. We will need to visit the Netherlands in 2024. I was trying to tell my husband that Amsterdam is not on the visit list…. It was not my ting in the late 80s…. So I cannot imagine it with the immigration problem. Double yuck. Nice to hear why some Japanese have shut themselves in. Or at least part of the reason.
