Trump is done, finished, kaput as megadonors bail in droves [WashTimes]
Washington Times ^ | Joseph Curl

Donors just didn’t want to back a loser — and that’s just what Mr. Trump is now — a loser.

“Hedge fund manager Ken Griffin, the second-most prolific GOP donor of the midterms, said Tuesday that he would support [Florida Gov. Ron] DeSantis over Trump, pointing to the Florida governor’s dominant reelection victory in a state that was considered competitive until recently,” The Hill reported this week.

“I’d like to think that the Republican Party is ready to move on from somebody who has been for this party a three-time loser,” said Mr. Griffin, who funded a pro-Trump super political action committee in previous cycles but has already given $5 million to a PACE aligned with Mr. DeSantis.

Robert and Rebekah Mercer, two top donors to Mr. Trump’s 2016 campaign, are also done backing the former president, CNBC reported on Friday.

“Blackstone CEO Steve Schwarzman, Citadel CEO Ken Griffin, wealthy New York businessman Andy Sabin and billionaire Ronald Lauder are among the wealthy GOP donors opting against helping Trump’s latest campaign — at least during the Republican primary,” CNBC said. “Some of the country’s wealthiest GOP donors do not believe Trump can win again and have argued for a new face to represent their party in the race for president.”

Money often decides elections, so Mr. Trump’s desire to run again may simply be trumped by a lack of money. Should that occur, Mr. Trump might not even make it to the primaries, especially if Mr. DeSantis hoovers up all the cash. ... There was no more fear of The Don, and a look deep into the exit polling data shows Mr. Trump truly was a drag on the party.

—> he let the Dems steal it of them out from under him.

The establishment republicans and RNC rolled over like little bitc$es and did nothing - other than raise mine off it.

Same as they’re doing now.

I’ve got to admit, I think DeSantis is more likely to win in 2024 if he decides to run and gets the nomination, but the people and media pushing him and attacking Trump are really giving me pause. Calling DeSantis anyone’s puppet, though, is ridiculous as any Floridian knows.

I expect what a lot of them would like is DeSantis and Trump to split the base while they push in some globalist neo-con as designated loser, in order to attempt to reorient the party again against little Americans and their interests. I’m sure they’d be willing to lose without the support of the base if it meant the GOP would be the party of international corporations and war. I doubt they actually want DeSantis, who in some ways is more consistently conservative than Trump has been.

Smart politics is to run 45 (hybrid candidate) for one more term
with a setup for DeSantis four years later.

DeSantis simply doesn't run in FL again, his picked successor does and R's get an 8 year POTUS.

JMO, YMMV

how does he keep WI, AZ, GA, MI, or PA from again being stolen in ‘24?

How does DeSantis? You seem to think is 10’ tall and bullet proof. He won Florida A RED STATE from top to bottom. Andean against an absolute moron

Your thinking and that of almost all DeSantis supporters:

Pres Trump runs and the Left will cheat

DeSantis runs and there will be no cheating

You’re living fantasyland.

Trying to smear DeSantis is foolish - even for Trump. You attempting to smear him is even less wise.

It's a good thing we have you here to keep US straight! DeSantis is already bought and paid for. If he has any brains at all he will sit this one out. I'm all for him running, being the 8th Day Wonder and all. I want to see if he can live up to that nonsense. If you ask me he has already pretty much 'smeared' himself. If he decides to butt heads with Trump he will be destroyed for his efforts.

That’s certainly a strike against anyone.

Shapiro’s Daily Wire is owned by Ted Cruz’s top donors. Everything they do is designed to promote globalist Ted Cruz.

I used to subscribe to the Washington Slimes during the impeachment wars of 1998-99.

Now, they've descended to the level of the NY Times & the Washingsnot Pest.

DeSantis will have cheating on his side in GA and NH.

It is time we get honest with ourselves.

This very thing happened in michiganstan...
Enough MAGA people took over enough precincts that the so called mega donors did not get their preferred candidates on the ballot at the state convention.
They took their toys (cash) and went home.
The more we take control, the more the power brokers are going to pull their funds.
We need to be ready for just this.

Yes. And whose wife is a top executive at Goldman Sachs. Ted is very obviously not MAGA. But he puts on Christian airs and has tricked more than a few Republicans.

I don’t give a crap about Donald Trump’s mega donors. Whether the assist him or not will not stop me for voting again for a man who had the Presidency stolen from him once.

He was then Persecuted by the same SOB’s the stole that same election.

So the man who built a real estate empire, has a healthy successful family, made himself a house hold name, made one of the most successful ‘reality’ shows on TV, beat the most crooked presidential candidate in history (backed by the media, pop culture, academia, hollywood), joyfully fought back against non stop attacks investigations and two fake impeachments, is a “loser?” Well then.

But really what they are saying is “please don’t come after us for backing Trump.” They see what the swamp does to anyone that supports Trump.
