When push comes to shove, the proposal will not turn out to be feasible.
NC down to Jacksonville have exploded their port capacities the last 5 years. Brunswick, GA has very significantly increased its port capacity plus has been innovative in establishing inland container “ports” complete with customs clearance and IIRC, duty free holding. With respect to any port, capacity is a function of wharf length, crane and bulk handling equipment, on-site laydown area and rail and truck yards.
The inland ports to GA Brunswick connection hotshots containers via rail between the seaport and several GA inland ports thus reducing congestion and container handling at the seaport. The northernmost inland port especially is excellently located for rail and truck links to the Midwest and NE and is 45 minutes by truck to connect to barges on the TN River when needed.
Wonderful equestrian tale, alloysteel. At least one thing climate change debaters can agree on — transportation requires horsepower!
