On a visit to Kherson, I see why the Ukrainians will win — with our support
The New York Post ^ | November 18, 2022 | Douglas Murray

Russia is going to lose this war. And Ukraine is going to win it. How can I say that with confidence? Because yesterday I was in the city of Kherson and saw Russia’s defeat with my own eyes.

Kherson is part of the south of Ukraine that was invaded and occupied in March this year. In September it was one of the four regions which the Kremlin gave a “vote” to in order to pretend that the regions really wanted to be part of Russia, not Ukraine. These “plebiscites” were meant to validate the occupier. But the whole thing was a sham, with results not seen since Saddam Hussein held “elections” in which he regularly received over 100% of the vote.

The Kremlin thought it was playing a clever game in “making official” its gobbling up these vast regions. But all the time Ukraine — backed by military provisions sent from the West — fought a far cleverer and braver war.

In recent days the consequences have been paying off. Last week the Ukrainians managed to take back the city of Kherson and much of the surrounding region. And they did it with barely a fight. So swift was the Ukrainian advance that many Russian soldiers didn’t even get the memo that they were meant to have fled the city.

Putin doesn’t have to worry about optics or popular support any more than Stalin did.
I believe you are mistaken. Putin is not Stalin.

I would be very happy to be mistaken, and I hope I am.

It is bizarre to claim propaganda is not necessary, at any stage of the war.

The information war is, and will be an important part of warfare.

Both sides wage information war as a serious part of the war effort.

Why would anyone stop part of the war effort when the war is still being fought?

Russia makes lots of weapons.

Not as good as American, but it buys by factory output and not by Congressionally set dribs and drabs.

I believe the US is bound by nonproliferation treaties.

The Russians are probably going to launch a winter offensive.
They probably intend to cut most of Ukraine off from the EU.

To do that, they would have to occupy western Ukraine, which they don't have access to unless they can persuade Belarus to join them in the war. And they would face vigorous resistance in western Ukraine, which except for the Soviet occupation from 1939-1941 and 1944-1991 was never ruled by Russia.

Russia has trucks. In 1945 Russia supplied troops invading Berlin from factories in the Urals

News flash: it's not 1945 anymore ...

but here's a serious question - if everything is as you say, why is Russia retreating?

Looks like tanks stuck in mud.

Russian tanks move better over solidly frozen ground.

In winter Russian tanks have more freedom of movement.

Surprised that Murray didn’t insist on holding the LGBT flag.

The western world is insisting on the total destruction of Russia, and Russia won’t let that happen, at least not without taking the rest of the world with it. All this cheering for Ukraine, which even the IMF has stated is the most corrupt country in Europe, will lead to a lot of heartache for a lot of people outside Russia AND Ukraine.

How does ten of billions of dollars constitute “the bare minimum” of support? Just how many dollars is the U.S. taxpayer supposed to pour in?

And why won't the Bidenreich give us an accounting of how that money is being spent?

Of course, I already know the answer to that question.

I would think a Jew should know better than to dehumanize an entire group of people.

FALSE

we just want Russia to stay within its own borders, and stop this constant attacking of its neighbors

like every other country in Europe somehow manages to do

I also give Taiwan and Poland nukes.

And what if either country actually used one of our donated nukes?

That would green light a nuclear attack on the US. Is that what you want?

Notwithstanding FR’s cabal of Putinista’s, I must say that I’m amazed that The Lefties controlling Biden accidentally (I think) got one thing right, or kind of right, when they decided to help the Ukrainians fight off hordes of Russian murderers, rapists and thieves whose tactics of mass destruction and mass murder of innocent civilians equal or exceed Hitler’s.

Yes, there is serious corruption in Ukraine. But, there is serious corruption in the US so let’s not be hypocrites.

Putin is the Hitler of our time and we had no choice but to help STOP and eventually destroy the bastard.

The Russians can’t spare troops for occupation of cities. Russia can’t afford to place entire cities on welfare when cut off from their economic regions. To feed Kherson was about as burdensome as feeding a million Russian soldiers.

The Russians need to supply their troops for a winter offensive. This means moving lots of fuel and ammo, fast.

”Russian tanks move better over solidly frozen ground.”

Maybe one day the russians will be able to design a tank that can function in the other three seasons of the year…
