An attacker opened fire in a gay nightclub late Saturday, killing five people and wounding 18, officials said. The club said the suspect was subdued by patrons.
Authorities received a report of a shooting at Club Q at 11:57 p.m. and responded within minutes, said Lt. Pamela Castro of the Colorado Springs Police Department.
A 22-year-old gunman walked into the club and immediately began firing from a “long rifle,” police said. Two firearms were found at the scene.
The gunman was taken into custody around five minutes after police first received a call about the shooting at Club Q. Police said early Sunday morning the suspect was also being treated at the hospital.
“The hospitals are helping us to notify families of the injured… we do have officers at every hospital with all the victims,” said Lt. Pamela Castro.
Castro had few details beyond the number of dead and wounded. She confirmed the suspect was injured but didn’t know how and that the FBI was on the scene and assisting.

EL PASO COUNTY — Residents within a quarter-mile of the 6300 block of Pilgrimage Road in the Lorson Ranch neighborhood were evacuated Friday night by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.
The Sheriff’s office said the situation began around 2 p.m. Friday afternoon when they responded to a report of a bomb threat in the 9800 block of Rubicon Dr. The reporting party said her son was threatening to hurt her with a homemade bomb, multiple weapons, and ammunition. She was not in the home at the time when she made the call and was not sure where her son was.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the home and after further investigation realized the suspect, 21-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrich was in the 6300 block of Pilgrimage Road, approximately one mile away from Rubicon Dr. Deputies contacted Aldrich by phone and he refused to comply with orders to surrender.
At approximately 4:15 PM deputies began evacuating approximately 10 homes in the area as a precaution.
A short time later, an emergency text notification was also sent out to homes within a 1/4-mile radius of the address.
The Sheriff’s Office said then at approximately 5:46 PM, negotiators were able to get Aldrich to comply with orders and he walked out of the front door of the home and was arrested.
The Regional Explosives Unit cleared both homes and did not find any explosive devices.
Shortly after 8 p.m., the evacuation was lifted and residents were able to return to their homes.

No. My comment was not meant to be funny. It was truthful. My brother was homosexual and there were a lot of them that you just didn't mess with. Turns out that I was correct. A would-be victim took the assailants gun and beat him with it.
