How big is the Russian army?
The Russian military is one of the most powerful in the world.

Compared to Ukraine’s military, Russia’s is overwhelmingly large, boasting 850,000 active personnel and 250,000 in reserve.

Russia’s firepower is second only to the United States.

They do also use conscription, requiring everyone between 18 and 33 to enlist for 12 months.

Their military statistics are as follows, according to Global Firepower:

850,000 active personnel
12,420 tanks
30,122 armoured vehicles
4,173 total aircraft
772 fighter aircraft
544 attack helicopters
605 naval fleet
11 frigates
15 destroyers

2. How big is the Ukrainian army?
According to the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), Ukraine has 196,600 active military personnel.

This breaks down into 125,600 ground troops, 35,000 airmen and 15,000 naval troops.

It can also count on 900,000 reservists although, as recent images of civilians holding wooden rifles suggest, not all of these forces are necessarily well equipped.

3. I am simply an unbiased casual observer. I don’t see this as a war between Ukraine and Russia. I see Obama’s and now Biden’s filthy paws or corruption all over this. NATO is involved along with Britan/US as major sources of intelligence and military supplies. Ukraine would not be at war with Russia unless 2014-2020 Uke NAZI para’s gutting the Russian population in Uke areas. America backed several coups and we put our people in charge. It is now essentially an American war using Uke soldiers. This current Ukraine Govt is corrupt and wholly owned by the DNC.

That’s the way I see it as well. Ukraine is just a pawn.

“How big is the Russian army?”

it doesn’t matter. I can’t believe I have to explain this to a FReeper - but so many are stupid when it comes to this war.

It doesn’t matter how big Russia’s army is. It ONLY matters how big Russia’s army is INSIDE Ukraine. Thus, Russia’s vast military suddenly means nothing if it is not being committed to fighting in Ukraine. See how simple logic is? And the “big” army they are sending to Ukraine is made up of conscripts with little or no training, bad equipment, no incentive to fight, and extremely poor leadership. Oh, they might win by sheer volume, but that is not really strength - that’s just waste.

“The Russian military is one of the most powerful in the world.”

Yet in 8 full months it has not been able to defeat the poorest and most corrupt country in all of Europe. What does that tell? Do not cop out and say something about Ukrainians getting weapons from the West - of course that matters - but all of Russia’s supposed might should have easily compensated for that little aid that reached Ukraine in the earliest days. Russian commentators were saying it would all be over in a matter of days. We’re 8 months in and there’s no end in sight.

“Russia’s firepower is second only to the United States.”

The United States defeated and occupied Afghanistan more soundly in a few months than Russia did in a decade and the Russians were NEXT DOOR while we were thousands of miles away. Except for nukes the Russians have little real military power.
