The example I have in my extended family was to make a point by my Kumbaya relatives they are rich

And it’s been problematic

Kids need homes but as you know good intentions may not guarantee outcome

Adoption is good bad and ugly I’m not sure the stats but my family experience is mixed

I knew there would be some issues. Living in “whitelandia” made some things easier. Except those pesky lesbians lol. The kids do well here. People are people and every one has an opinion. They were not everyone’s cup of tea. But who is.
They were taught not to melt over certain words. But to use that information to make a choice about the people uttering them.

The racism of low expectations was a bigger problem coupled with people who were over the top because of their twisted sense of affirmative action. Had to get them out of those environments fast.

I think they are doing better than they would otherwise. The culture they were raised in was the first truly inclusive one of western civilization. Christianity.

Hereditary means a lot. I see it in all four.

My kids spend time with with other white identified blacks occasionally. American blacks don’t enter in the picture much. One kid had the southern college attended practically fore her into their black social group. She lasted about ten minutes. They didn’t fit.
Otoh she ended up engaged to her white roommate’s wealthy neighbor at the end of her time there.

That was almost 15 years ago. The world is more twisted today

Thanks for having the stones to talk about this - I have always been a nature/genes more than nurture kind of guy based on life experience and my own family of origin. Too many well meaning Christians believe that human beings are a “blank slate” and that good upbringing can compensate fully for genetic family of origin issues.

Remember though that American racial categories are BS - see “Hispanic” as a case in point - includes people as white as snow and as black as coal, provided they have family roots in the Spanish-speaking world.

Back in the old country, Jews and Gypsies were considered separate “races” but here in the USA they are white as a Swede.

It’s a question of numbers. I would bet that, proportionately, adopted black kids resent their white “parents” much more than adopted white kids. Also there are many more sensitive issues that come up with such mixed families.

Here’s a black adopted girl detailing her feelings of having been brought up in a loving white family. The resentments, the sense of not belonging, the sense of not being understood, of being “foreign” comes through vividly. She never really bonded with the white parents, though she was grateful at an intellectual level.

I’m quite sure that those are feelings shared by many in her situation...and sometimes the resentment blows up.

The feelings she felt were mostly due to the different racial identities, something that would be absent from white kids adopted by white parents, thus resulting in fewer such incidents.

Well... Other people here accused you of seeing yourself as a white savior, and you just admitted they were right.

My life experience has been that “white” people are not a monolith. I grew up in a part of the country where ethnic groups lived in separate neighborhoods, and we didn’t like each other. Our ancestors came here speaking different languages, and our food, customs, and beliefs were different. Our cultures were different.

But, I suppose that, if your background is mixed with many different European ethnicities, you just call yourself “white”? And then you say there’s a “white culture”? *SHRUG* LOL

She wasn’t adopted. The man was her biological father, married to her mother who is black.

Of course, issues surrounding race can happen in a “mixed” family.

But, listen to the words she used. She called him “cisgender” and straight. She uses “they/them” as her pronouns. She has more issues than just race. If she were white as white can be, she still would’ve given a horrible speech criticizing her father at his funeral. Because that’s just the type of person she is.

You are correct that the multitude of European tribes that peopled the US provided individual cultural experiences and in some section of the country that still may hold true. I certainly don’t see myself as anyone’s savior. Ever.

However when discussing evolving different factions in the US and racial differences I did use the shorthand of calling that cultural melange white.

And I do think that the Christian faith has been the single most cohesive force in western civilization and it was useful for the children.

Yes I know that, I was responding to someone who had adopted black kids.

Yes, we agree on that. Perhaps her biggest problem was her parents who paid tens of thousands of dollars a year to send her to a private, woke, indoctrination camp.

I’m sure they must have known the hate they were filling her with. Maybe he got what he paid for.
