(LifeSiteNews) – In perhaps the greatest defeat conservatives have ever suffered at the hands of Republican Party, the Senate today advanced Democrats’ bill to enshrine same-sex “marriage” into federal law in a vote of 62 to 37.
Twelve Republican senators joined with all Democrats to pass the bill, the “Respect for Marriage Act,” including: Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Rob Portman of Ohio, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Mitt Romney of Utah, Roy Blunt of Missouri, Richard Burr of North Carolina, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Joni Ernst of Iowa, Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, Dan Sullivan of Alaska, and Todd Young of Indiana.
Democrats needed the support of 10 Republicans to clear the Senate’s 60-vote filibuster threshold.
Today’s vote came despite the objections of many of the most prominent conservative groups in the U.S., including the Heritage Foundation, Alliance Defending Freedom, the Family Research Council, thousands of Christian churches and institutions, and the overwhelming majority of Republican voters who oppose federal legislation to codify homosexual “marriage.”
The Respect of Marriage Act makes same-sex “marriage” the law of the land, ensuring that all 50 states must recognize such unions, regardless of state laws, in the event the Supreme Court overturns its 2015 decision, Obergefell v. Hodges, which mandates legal recognition of same-sex “marriage” nationwide.

Man, sure wish we would have "won" the Senate /s
What a farce it all has become.
Constitutionally, it isn’t.
“It will be Mitch McConnell and Lindsey Graham who drive the voters back to President Trump.”
Well said. That’s exactly what’s going to happen.
50 state abortion — next?
Well of course. Here's some LiberalThink for you : The Bible, like the Constitution, is one that evolves, changes over time, and adapts to new circumstances, without being formally amended. It's like the snake said "Did God really say man shall not lay down with man"?
Libs will jail pastors, laymen and anyone who makes gays feel uncomfortable. Free Speech will be changed to Right Speech, where we all follow Big Brothers guidelines on what to say and what to think. It's for our own good.
I was a little horrified that my Christian counselor, in the lobby he shares with other Christian counselors, had a number of Sojourners magazines. If you read them they have the indecency to suggest those on the right are not real or good Christians. Sort of like the Christian magazine for Marxists.
Early on in the Trump runup to POTUS my dentist was a big fan. We got on the topic of gay marriage and I said why can’t I marry my horse? He was quite horrified when I said that. I guess people believe love fixes everything. He stayed a big Trump fan though.
I guess it is imperative to destroy the family and the culture that held us together for a couple hundred years.
Soon Osage, soon. And don’t forget our minor attracted friends as well.
Only if you file the proper paperwork with your cat!
*SNORT*
I tend to agree with your thinking. We can count on them to stab us in the back. Some moderates will be fine with this but it will galvanize the rest. It’s always the same 10 or 12. Mitch’s Bitch’s
ROFL sounds like my former church. Where did they get that mantra anyway. I currently do not attend. Took a sabbatical and did not return.
The phrase god bless America is starting to bring the question into my mind:
‘Why? Why should he bless us anymore?”
The First Amendment prohibits Congress from establishing a religion (or disestablishing one). How can Congress pass such a law, when marriage is a sacrament or religious ritual?
At least they’ve exposed themselves for what they truly are.
Most of them can certainly outrun us. I don't move very fast these days.
“Is McConnell himself a sodomite?”
He was just showing support for Paul Pelosi.
Oh, look, the usual gang of idiots...
I’m only vaguely familiar with Sojourners, but understood them as historically orthodox biblically. I am not surprised in the least these days when I hear of the apostasy of a formerly staunchly conservative organization. World Vision was one of them.
