BREAKING: Republicans join Democrats to pass same-sex ‘marriage’ bill in massive defeat for conservatives

Twelve Republican senators joined with all Democrats to pass the bill, which is set to be Joe Biden's first major legislative achievement on LGBT issues.

(LifeSiteNews) – In perhaps the greatest defeat conservatives have ever suffered at the hands of Republican Party, the Senate today advanced Democrats’ bill to enshrine same-sex “marriage” into federal law in a vote of 62 to 37.

Twelve Republican senators joined with all Democrats to pass the bill, the “Respect for Marriage Act,” including: Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Rob Portman of Ohio, Thom Tillis of North Carolina, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, Mitt Romney of Utah, Roy Blunt of Missouri, Richard Burr of North Carolina, Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia, Joni Ernst of Iowa, Cynthia Lummis of Wyoming, Dan Sullivan of Alaska, and Todd Young of Indiana.

Democrats needed the support of 10 Republicans to clear the Senate’s 60-vote filibuster threshold.

Today’s vote came despite the objections of many of the most prominent conservative groups in the U.S., including the Heritage Foundation, Alliance Defending Freedom, the Family Research Council, thousands of Christian churches and institutions, and the overwhelming majority of Republican voters who oppose federal legislation to codify homosexual “marriage.”

The Respect of Marriage Act makes same-sex “marriage” the law of the land, ensuring that all 50 states must recognize such unions, regardless of state laws, in the event the Supreme Court overturns its 2015 decision, Obergefell v. Hodges, which mandates legal recognition of same-sex “marriage” nationwide.

I’ve done it too except I didn’t vote for Romney. I was planning to but I kept track of his campaign ads that year. It seemed clear to me that he was TRYING to lose to Obama. His primary ads were clear and strong. He made himself into a feckless weakling for the general. That had to be on purpose.

“This is only for two people, right? What’s wrong with three?”

I suspect that this may be why we’re seeing the LDS/Romney pivot on this issue. Perhaps the Mormons are thinking about “getting the band back together.” The bands of wives, that is.

No surprise, The Republicans are failures and there are no real Conservatives among them, except for a small few.

The House will do nothing at all under the leaders chosen, all of them already bought and paid for.

Like I said in another thread...I will no longer vote for Senators. I don’t care what party they are in. They are anti-Christian and are all about money for themselves...period!

Has it gone through the House? (no...in fine tradition I did not read the article)

There should be a new law prohibiting legislation during lame duck sessions.

Pastors such as these are one of the reasons God Almighty is currently judging America...it will not end well for them, or their followers.

It will not end well for any of us, earthly speaking.

The Supreme Court had clarified in Reid v. Covert that federal power to approve treaties cannot be used as a backdoor to expand the federal government's powers.
"The obvious and decisive answer to this, of course, is that no agreement with a foreign nation can confer power on the Congress, or on any other branch of Government, which is free from the restraints of the Constitution." —Reid v. Covert, 1957.

But regardless that the states have never expressly constitutionally given the federal government the specific power to regulate marriage, post-17th Amendment ratification renegade Senate Democrats and RINOs are now abusing the Constitution's full faith and credit clause by using it as a back door to expand the feds powers to attack the 10th Amendment-protected powers of the sovereign states to define marriage imo.

Historically speaking, regarding the full faith and credit clause, consider that at one time if you were 18 years old and living in a state where minimum drinking age is 18, and you visit a friend in a state where drinking age is 21, then your state's lower minimum drinking age did not follow you into your friend's state.

This law is wrong & will probably bring about more wrongs. It goes very much against religious liberty. I hope those who helped to pass it will realize what they have done while they still have the opportunity to repent of it. That opportunity may not always be available to them.

Your Christianity is the target folks. Churches and Christian business will be shutdown starting next year. A lot of voting Republicans voted for this or didn’t vote at all. I blame them!

Jim Wallis, the lunatic that founded Sojourners is the son of a man I knew when I was a kid.

The father has been dead for a long time and I have no idea how he felt about it.

Yep. The states should stop acting like the fed gov is composed of little tin gods when they step outside the clear boundaries laid down by the constitution.

It’s worse than it first appears. https://afn.net/opinion/suzanne-bowdey/2022/11/16/senate-marriage-bill-declares-war-on-american-parents/

“Under this proposal, which some Republicans have the audacity to support, natural marriage is considered a bigoted view — discrimination, in fact. Some legal experts, including Family Research Council’s Mary Beth Waddell, believe the text actually makes a correlation between natural marriage and racism.

The bill itself threatens, “The Attorney General may bring a civil action in the appropriate United States district court against any person who violates subsection (a) for declaratory and injunctive relief.” In other words, if you hold the belief that marriage is the union of a man and woman — the mainstream view for all of human history — and stand in the way of the Left’s redefinition in any way, the full weight of the Justice Department will be brought to bear. As if that weren’t enough, a private right of action — meaning everyday citizens can sue based on some perceived violation of their rights — is encouraged for anyone “harmed” by your biblical beliefs.”

When I say The American Establishment has won/rigged every election since 1790 people think I’m embellishing or joking.

“I’m not, I actually believe it.”

Romney threw the election because that was his roll in 2012. Win the primary, but turn into a pussy for the general election.

Electing the Mulatto Messiah was what the establishment wanted so Romney “did his duty.”
